Bethesda fixed one specific case involving Andreja in its November 20, 2023 update, but that patch note does not establish that every invisible-head or equipment-visibility issue has the same cause or fix.
What “invisible head” can mean in Starfield
The description can refer to different visual problems, and distinguishing them helps avoid applying a fix to the wrong symptom:
- An NPC’s head appears cloaked: Bethesda’s Update 1.8.86 notes specifically say the studio fixed an issue where Andreja’s head would stay permanently cloaked.
- Your player character is invisible: Bethesda Support provides troubleshooting steps for an invisible player character, including checking for Chameleon-effect equipment.
- A helmet or other piece of equipment is invisible: A community report about a Unity counterpart describes an invisible helmet. That is a different reported symptom, not evidence of the same Andreja issue.
What Bethesda’s patch notes confirm
In the notes for Starfield Update 1.8.86, dated November 20, 2023, Bethesda says: “Fixed an issue where Andreja’s head would stay permanently cloaked.” Read Bethesda’s Update 1.8.86 notes.
This is a historical fix for a specific character and symptom. It is not a blanket confirmation that all later reports of invisible heads, bodies, or helmets are fixed. The same notes also mention some NPCs appearing without clothes, with Bethesda noting that this issue might resolve itself over time; that is a separate appearance problem.

How to troubleshoot an invisible player character
Bethesda Support recommends the following checks for an invisible player character. These are troubleshooting suggestions, not guaranteed repairs. Try them in order, checking whether the appearance returns after each relevant change.
- Check equipped items for a Chameleon effect. Bethesda advises checking whether the character has equipment with this effect equipped.
- Unequip equipment and fast travel. If the character remains invisible, unequip equipment, fast travel, and check again. Re-equip items afterward if appropriate.
- Refresh the affected area. Travel somewhere else and return, or enter a distant area that triggers a loading screen before returning.
- For an NPC-related issue, wait 72 in-game hours. Bethesda suggests sitting or resting to pass the time; this is guidance for some NPC behavior issues, not a guaranteed fix for every invisible character.
- Load an earlier save. If available, try a save from before entering the affected area.
- Fully quit the game and restart the system. Then load the game again and check the same character.
- Test without mods, if applicable. Bethesda suggests disabling and completely removing installed mods while troubleshooting. This step does not prove that mods caused a particular case.
- Verify the game files for your platform. Follow Bethesda’s platform-specific instructions rather than assuming the same file-check process applies everywhere.

When the symptom is an invisible helmet
A community issue opened August 13, 2024, for game version 1.12.36 describes a player’s Unity counterpart holding an invisible helmet. It is a single PC/Steam report, not a representative measure of how often the issue occurs, and it does not show that the problem shares a cause with Andreja’s permanently cloaked head.
