Does the Rebellion Fix remove the CD check?
Not according to its published feature list. SW:Rebellion Community Fix v2.63.1.0 describes performance, Windows compatibility, and graphics updates, and its installation instructions advise backing up the game files. They do not say that the patch removes a launch-time CD check. See the Rebellion Fix page and its installation guide.
The community instructions identify Windows XP through Windows 11, but this is community-maintained compatibility guidance, not a publisher guarantee. Make a copy of the game folder before replacing or installing files. Do not assume the patch will make an installation that says “insert the Rebellion CD” launch without the disc.
First identify your edition and the exact prompt
Before changing files, note whether your copy was installed from the original CD, Steam, or GOG, along with your Windows version and the exact wording of the error. The official Star Wars Support page lists PC requirements for GOG and Steam editions, while the archived game manual instructs players to insert the Rebellion CD during installation. That installation instruction does not prove that every edition requires the disc at launch.

- Original CD: Confirm whether the disc is readable and whether the prompt appears during installation or only when launching an already installed game.
- Steam or GOG: Record the storefront and the installed build. A digital edition may have different files and launch behavior from a disc installation.
- Any edition: Write down your Windows version and the complete error text. Those details help distinguish an installation problem from a launch-time disc prompt.
Try the low-risk Windows checks
GOG Support’s general guidance for a game that asks for a CD suggests checking administrator privileges and User Account Control (UAC), then trying Run as Administrator. This advice is not specific to Rebellion and is not proof that it fixes this game.
- Right-click the game’s shortcut or executable and select Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab and select Run this program as an administrator, then choose Apply and OK.
- Launch the game again and note whether the message changes. If it still asks for the disc, undo the compatibility change if it causes other problems.
- For general troubleshooting context, consult GOG Support’s “Game asks for CD” guidance. If your copy is from GOG and the issue remains, contact GOG Support; for another edition, contact its seller or relevant support channel.
What current compatibility information says
Star Wars Support records a PC re-release date of January 23, 2015, and lists Windows XP, Vista, 7, and 8 as requirements for its GOG and Steam editions. Those are the requirements shown on that older support page, not current Windows testing.

GOG’s indexed changelog, dated June 11, 2025, says a game build added an important Direct3D file, applied DDrawCompat for fullscreen rendering, added an optional windowed launch mode, and was described as fully compatible with Windows 10 and 11. The listing redirected to the general store page when checked, so current GOG sales availability is not established here. No authoritative Rebellion-specific executable or official patch that removes the CD check is established by the cited sources. Avoid downloading a replacement executable advertised as a no-CD bypass: its origin and behavior are not verified here, and it may be unsafe or incompatible with your installation. A physical optical drive can read a disc, but buying or repairing one does not itself remove a launch-time check.
