There are six Taken Osseous Fragments in the Sunless Cell strike: three in The Founts and three in the Asylum. Follow the route below to collect them, then finish the strike for the Dyadic Perfection quest. The location directions are from PC Gamer’s April 2, 2025 guide.
Before you start
PC Gamer’s guide says the original route to the Sunless Cell strike required progressing Episode: Heresy through Act III, completing Dyadic Ascension, and picking up Dyadic Perfection at the Shaping Slab. The quest calls for all six fragments and strike completion. The guide also recommends equipping Barrow-Dyad during the strike, since completing it gets one of the weapon’s catalyst quests.

That route may no longer be available as described. Bungie’s Year 8 Destiny Content Vault page lists Episode: Heresy’s seasonal narrative and The Taken Path exotic quest among vaulted content; Barrow-Dyad is listed as The Taken Path’s reward. Bungie says vaulted activities may return in later releases. Check the in-game Portal and your quest/vendor state before relying on the original unlock steps; the vault page does not establish every alternate route or whether the strike is currently launchable from a playlist.
Where to find all six fragments
The first three are in The Founts. The remaining three are in the Asylum. These directions follow the strike route from the start of The Nether.
#1 Best Overall
- Founts entry corridor: As you enter The Founts, go straight rather than turning left. Find the glowing fragment on the ground by the bars at the corridor’s end.
- Upper Hive structures: Continue along the corridor and turn right. Look up on the right for vaulted Hive structures jutting from the wall. Climb to the second level and collect the fragment from the front of one structure.
- Lower Founts corner: Continue forward and drop into the lower section. Turn right, pass the doorway on the left sealed with Taken energy, then turn left behind the collapsed, crate-like Hive objects. The fragment is near the wall.
- Broken strut at the Asylum entrance: Continue to the open Asylum area and take the staircase on the left. Descend the broken sloping strut on the left; the fragment glows at its base.
- Under the bridge: Return to the left staircase and continue farther. Pull out Ghost to reveal platforms below, drop to the lowest one, then hop right to the small platform under the bridge. Look in the cubby for the fragment.
- Bridge platform: After the floating-eyes and Subjugator encounter, reach the bridge with Hive totems hanging from chains. At the bridge’s start, jump to the platform on the left and collect the fragment.
Once all six are collected, complete the Sunless Cell strike to satisfy the quest objective.
If a fragment appears to be missing
Check every location rather than assuming the sixth fragment is the one you missed. In a Bungie Help forum discussion about an apparently absent fragment, a Bungie Help reply asked whether the quest had been started on an alternate character and suggested checking that character’s progress. For an unresolved case, the reply asked the player to record footage visiting all six locations for support review. That is advice for the reported case, not confirmation of a general bug or a guaranteed fix.

Esoterickk’s video walkthrough adds a caution for the Shrieker room: defeat both Taken Guards before passing through the opened door. The creator warns that defeating only one may softlock the strike and force a restart; treat this as a walkthrough-specific warning, not an official known issue.

Sunless Cell is a reprise of an earlier Destiny strike. In an Xbox Wire interview published April 8, 2025, Designer J. Valencia described adapting its structure and encounters for Destiny 2’s current sandbox, including higher combatant density and new enemy types while preserving the original experience. Design Lead Baldur Tangvald recalled that the original boss encounter’s darkness created a hectic cat-and-mouse game with the boss. This context explains the reprise, but the fragment route above is the practical guide for the quest.
