When did Tales of the Shire actually come out?
Wētā Workshop’s project page records Tales of the Shire as launched on July 29, 2025. The date followed two changes to the schedule: the game was first moved from 2024 into early 2025, then its March target was replaced by a July launch.

The 2024 announcement also named Netflix Games, but that platform does not appear on Wētā Workshop’s current platform list. The announcement establishes it was part of the original plan; it does not confirm current availability there.
What kind of Lord of the Rings game is it?
Tales of the Shire is a cozy life sim set in Bywater, a corner of Middle-earth. Rather than centering on battles, it follows a Hobbit’s daily life and the effort to help Bywater become an official village. Wētā Workshop co-founder, Co-CEO, and Chief Creative Officer Richard Taylor described it as “a beautiful way that players who are looking for a quieter, more peaceful time can discover this in a less explored corner of this universe.”
