What is The Shell Part I: Inferno about?
Reiji Tokisaka is drawn into two overlapping cases: a series of murders and the disappearance of students from Oba Girls’ Academy. To investigate the school, he goes undercover as a teacher. Separately, Toko Kuchiki asks him to find her “true self.” The mysteries connect to an incident from six years earlier. The official synopsis frames the story around these investigations and its postwar Tokyo setting, without requiring spoilers to understand the premise. Steam and Shiravune describe the game.

Is it a visual novel, and what does it include?
Yes. It is the first entry in Innocent Grey’s three-part visual-novel series. Steam lists multiple endings, Japanese voice acting, remastered HD assets, and “10+ hours of story.” That playtime is a store-listed feature, not an independently measured estimate. Steam also lists Steam Cloud support and a bundle containing all three parts.
Is the Shell trilogy complete?
Yes. The series continues with The Shell Part II: Purgatorio and concludes with The Shell Part III: Paradiso. Steam’s community news announced the English release of Paradiso on January 22, 2025, describing it as the saga’s final chapter. A separate update to Inferno, dated January 29, 2025, added subtitles for voice-test clips in Character Voice Settings and corrected several typos in the Chinese version. Steam community news

- In the Divine Comedy, the poet Dante Alighieri enters Hell in search of his beloved Beatrice. Guided by Virgil, he descends through the nine circles, witnessing how each sinner is eternally punished in a manner as horrifying as the sin they committed in life.
- Inferno is a worker placement/ soul management game where each player must guide sinners to their respective circles in Hell. The central board consists of two parts: one displaying all 9 circles and the soul registry, while the other represents Florence in the early 14th century, where Dante lived, with its power games and palace intrigues.
Does it have English text?
Yes. Steam lists English, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese for the interface and subtitles, with Japanese full audio. Shiravune lists the same text and audio language split.
