The Sims 4 Life & Death Expansion Pack launched on October 31, 2024. EA’s announcement called it the game’s next expansion pack at the time; it is a historical release, not an upcoming 2026 launch.
When did The Sims 4 Life & Death come out?
EA announced the expansion on October 31, 2024, and confirmed that it launched that same day—Halloween. EA’s announcement introduced it as a pack about life, death and what follows.
What comes with the Life & Death expansion?
Ravenwood and its neighborhoods
The pack adds Ravenwood, a world with three distinct neighborhoods. EA describes Sims there as living alongside Ghost Sims with Unfinished Business, tying the setting to the passage between life and what comes next.
Bucket Lists and a Soul’s Journey
EA’s product listing says Young Adult Sims and older can receive Bucket Lists. Completing life goals can unlock interactions, the Burning Soul trait and Rebirth. These goals give Sims a path through life that can continue beyond its end.

- The veil between life and death is thin in Ravenwood. Visit the countryside and perhaps take a swim by the mysterious face in the cliffs. Or, head into the village where you’ll find some odd goods forpurchase near the old Specter cemetery.
Ghost Sims and Unfinished Business
Ghost Sims can pursue Unfinished Business and use Ghostly Powers. These features connect the pack’s afterlife gameplay to its larger themes of unresolved goals and new beginnings.
Do you need The Sims 4 to play Life & Death?
Yes. EA states that The Sims 4 base game is required to use the expansion. The pack is listed for PC, Mac, PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, as well as Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. Check the relevant storefront for availability in your region.

Steam lists a digital version of the expansion and requires online activation through an EA account and the EA app. Storefront and platform requirements can differ, so check the listing where you plan to play before buying. Not every ghost-related feature announced around the pack’s release requires the expansion. In its October 22, 2024 update notes, EA separately announced that ghosts could be created in Create a Sim for Child through Elder ages, along with new ghost needs. Those items were part of the base-game update, not presented as Life & Death expansion requirements. See EA’s October 22 update notes for that distinction.
