Important: The Simpsons: Tapped Out is no longer playable through EA’s official service. EA announced that the app would leave app stores on October 31, 2024, and that its servers would shut down on January 24, 2025. The tips below describe how the game’s progression systems worked before closure; they are not ways to earn or spend currency now. EA’s game page now redirects to its general homepage.
Can you still play The Simpsons: Tapped Out?
No—not through the official EA service. EA’s closure timeline, reported by Polygon on September 27, 2024, said the game would be delisted on October 31, 2024, and its servers would close on January 24, 2025. The report said in-app purchases had been disabled and that earlier content was planned to roll out before the shutdown; that was a pre-closure plan, not access available today. Fan-run preservation projects are separate from EA’s service and are not verified here as available or safe to recommend.

How the old currency and progression systems worked
These tips are an archive of the game’s documented mechanics, not current gameplay instructions. The game centered on rebuilding Springfield: characters performed jobs, buildings generated collectable rewards, and quests guided players toward new content.
| System | Historical role |
|---|---|
| Cash | Ordinary currency for buildings, land, and decorations. |
| XP | Advanced levels and helped unlock content; jobs, quests, and building collections awarded it. |
| Donuts | Premium currency for special characters, buildings, and decorations, and for speeding up tasks or construction. |
EA’s archived game description outlined the core gameplay and currency roles: The Simpsons: Tapped Out on EA. Historical gameplay references also document quests, daily challenges, and friend visits as additional reward loops: Tapped Out Wiki: Gameplay.

Eight historical tips for donuts, cash, and XP
1. Match character jobs to your check-in routine
Characters could be assigned jobs that paid cash and XP when complete. For the old game, a practical approach was to choose job durations that fit how often you expected to return: shorter jobs suited frequent check-ins, while longer ones reduced the need to check in as often. This is historical scheduling advice, not a way to earn rewards in the closed game.
2. Follow quests when you want to unlock content
Quests commonly asked players to assign jobs, build a particular structure, or place decorations. Completing them awarded cash and XP and could open additional content. When a quest specified a building or action, prioritizing that requirement helped keep progression moving rather than spending cash on unrelated items first.

3. Collect building payouts as part of your routine
Buildings produced cash and XP over time, which players had to collect. Checking completed payouts was one of the basic progression loops; leaving them uncollected meant delaying the rewards those buildings had generated.
4. Budget cash for required buildings and expansion
Cash paid for buildings, land, and decorations. Because quests could require particular buildings and expansion required land, spending all available cash on optional decorations could postpone those goals. The old system rewarded balancing town customization with the purchases needed to advance.

5. Treat XP as level progress, not spendable cash
XP moved the player toward level-ups and content unlocks; it was not the currency used to buy land or buildings. Jobs, quests, and building collections contributed to it, so pursuing those activities advanced levels while cash handled purchases.
6. Consider donuts a premium-currency trade-off
Donuts were used for special characters, buildings, and decorations, or to speed up tasks and construction. That made spending them a choice between access to premium items and saving time. No present-day donut earning or purchasing option exists through EA’s closed service.

7. Use daily challenges as a supplemental reward loop
Daily challenges historically offered additional cash and XP alongside the rewards from jobs, quests, and buildings. They were another activity to fold into a routine when playing the live game.
8. Visit friends’ towns for the old social rewards
Players could perform three tasks in each friend’s town per day and receive rewards and Friend Points. Friend visits therefore added a social supplement to the main Springfield progression loop, but they depended on the former live service.

The documented mechanics above describe legitimate in-game reward loops; they do not establish any working cheat codes or exploit. Since EA’s servers have closed, there is no official live game in which to use a current farming strategy. Treat claims that promise working official-service currency cheats or restored EA access with caution.
