The “Mixed” label describes The Sims 2 Legacy Collection’s launch reception, not its current Steam score. At the time of the latest storefront figures cited here, Steam showed 72% positive from 2,999 English reviews overall (“Mostly Positive”) and 81% positive from 121 recent English reviews (“Very Positive”). Those live figures can change. EA has also issued patches addressing stability, gameplay, performance and interface issues, but its notes do not establish that every problem is fixed.
What changed after the “Mixed” launch coverage?
PC Gamer reported a “Mixed” Steam user-review score at launch, amid player complaints about crashes, bugs, hard-to-read interface text at higher resolutions and a perceived lack of modernization. Those are launch-era complaints reported by the outlet, not evidence that every player experienced the same problems. Steam’s later displayed English-language reviews were more favorable: 72% positive across 2,999 reviews overall, labelled “Mostly Positive,” and 81% positive across 121 recent reviews, labelled “Very Positive,” as captured on October 8, 2026. Steam updates its review labels and totals over time, so these figures are a dated snapshot, not a permanent score.

IKEA Home Stuff does not appear in Steam’s published contents list. The collection is not a listing of every historical Sims 2 release; check the included-pack list if a particular pack matters to you.
What did EA patch, and what remains uncertain?
EA’s official patch announcements document work on stability, gameplay, crashes, interface behavior and performance. The record includes fixes for missing Sims and gameplay problems; improvements to frame rate and multi-monitor or window handling; and changes to the interface at higher resolutions. Patch 7 says the game defaults to a larger interface scale on screens above 1080p and describes configuration options for choosing a scale factor. Patch 8 lists a Create-a-Sim interface fix at 1280×800 and a fix for being unable to enter text in fields.

In notes dated February 27, 2025, EA also listed fixes for general stability, difficulty changing language, long launch times, and University graduation and relocation issues. These are publisher-reported changes, not an independent compatibility test. The official Sims 2 Steam announcements provide the patch record.
Fixes do not guarantee a clean slate for every save
EA’s notes warn that saves affected by certain problems before a fix may remain corrupted; in those cases, the publisher recommends starting a fresh save. The same notes say some issues require extended investigation and do not promise an immediate patch for every open issue. A patch can improve the game without repairing an already affected save or resolving every player’s problem.

Intel Arc and display-mode caveats were tied to the patch notes
EA’s announcements flagged recurring issues on Intel Arc systems and advised caution because of DirectX 9 compatibility behavior. They also described delays when switching display modes. These dated warnings do not establish the current status on every driver or hardware configuration, so check the latest publisher notes if either issue applies to your setup.
Is The Sims 2 Legacy Collection worth buying?
It is most compelling if you want the Windows digital release of the base game with the 17 packs Steam lists, and you are comfortable with a game whose publisher has documented compatibility and save-related caveats. The changed Steam reception is encouraging context, but an improving aggregate score is not a guarantee of stability on a particular PC.

It is a less straightforward choice if you expect every historical pack to be present, need a transferable purchase, or want assurance that an old save affected by a bug will be recoverable. IKEA Home Stuff is absent from Steam’s list, and Steam says access is limited to one linked EA account and one Steam account and is non-transferable after purchase.

Steam lists the game for Windows 10 and Windows 11, with 17 GB of free storage and 4 GB of RAM as both its minimum and recommended memory. Its listed processor options are Intel i3-3220, AMD Ryzen 3 1200 or AMD FX-6300; its listed graphics options are NVIDIA GTX 600-series, AMD Radeon HD 7000-series or Intel HD Graphics 620. These are the storefront’s published specifications, not a guarantee of performance on every system.

Steam says play requires internet access and linked EA and Steam accounts. The listing also shows EA Play access; availability and terms should be checked on the storefront at the time you decide. EA’s statement on continued updates
In its February 27, 2025 patch notes, The Sims Team said: “Thank you for your support as we continue to improve PC compatibility issues and community reported issues. We appreciate your patience and hope you’ve seen some good improvements over the last few weeks.” The statement is attributed to The Sims Team, not to an identified individual speaker.
