What is Dual Destiny?
Dual Destiny is an Exotic mission tied to the Pale Heart, the destination introduced with The Final Shape. It is associated with Exotic class items, which Bungie described as Prismatic gear with two random Exotic armor perks, including perks from other classes. Bungie’s May 9, 2024 announcement described Dual Destiny as farmable, with a guaranteed random-roll class item for each completion. That is a launch-period description, not confirmation that every reward rule remains unchanged.

How to unlock Dual Destiny
Bungie Help confirms the Overthrow prerequisites and says Ergo Sum is not required. The more detailed sequence below comes from a 2024 Bungie forum reply, so treat the encounter cues as community guidance and check the live game for any changes.
- Complete an Overthrow activity in each of the Landing, Blooming, and Impasse, and defeat the specific boss associated with the mission. Bungie Help names these three regions as prerequisites.
- According to the forum reply, a Wizard appears after the Overthrow boss in each region. Defeat the Wizard in all three areas.
- Follow the resulting cue to the Refraction. The same reply describes defeating two Subjugators there and depositing the orbs they drop before the timer expires. Completing this sequence reveals the mission start.

How many players can do it?
The same forum reply says the prerequisite unlock can be done solo or with a group, but Dual Destiny itself requires exactly two players: it cannot be launched solo or with three. Because this player-count detail comes from community guidance rather than a current official walkthrough, verify the activity requirements in game before assembling a fireteam.
What does Dual Destiny reward?
Bungie’s May 2024 announcement says Exotic class items have two random Exotic perks, with possible perks drawn from armor associated with classes beyond the player’s own. Bungie also said at launch that each completion of the activity granted a guaranteed random roll and that the activity was farmable. Those statements describe the activity as presented at launch; the available official sources do not establish all current reward-acquisition rules or later changes. Bungie Help is the clearest official source for the three Overthrow regions, their associated bosses, and the fact that Ergo Sum is unnecessary. The exact post-boss Wizard sequence and timed encounter are documented in the cited community reply, not in a current official walkthrough. Check the mission’s live in-game cues for the precise encounter flow and current reward rules.
