These mechanics shape how you spend resources, prepare for bosses, and recover from a difficult death.
How Skyborn Might works—and when to spend it
Precise attacks, dodges, and blocks build Skyborn Might. Spend it on weapon abilities or spells, so decide which tools matter most in the fight rather than treating the meter as a resource with only one use. Learn how your equipped weapon generates and uses it before investing in a particular combat rhythm.
You can carry two weapons, and each has its own skill tree. Xbox Wire’s July 23, 2025 launch guide described five weapon classes and more than 25 weapons to collect; Epic’s guide names the five types as axes, dual blades, one-handed swords, longswords, and spears. Weapon handling changes the feel of combat: dual blades favor agility, axes offer defensive strength, and longswords suit timed parries. These are broad tendencies, not a promise that one weapon is best for every encounter. Xbox Wire’s beginner guide and the Epic Games Store guide describe these mechanics.
Respec freely to test a build
Red Mercury has two uses: it can buy items in shops, or be invested in the Impetus Repository to unlock stats and abilities. The Repository distinguishes broader character progression from weapon-specific skill nodes. According to Epic’s guide, you can reset skills and spent resources without a fee, so early choices need not lock you into a build.

Try a setup around one weapon and its skill tree, then reallocate if a boss exposes a weakness. You can also shift priorities between damage, survivability, and spending Skyborn Might on weapon techniques or spells. Keep in mind that Red Mercury spent in shops is a separate use of the resource from progression investment.
Use Shrine services without resting
A Shrine is more than a checkpoint, and selecting its services is different from choosing to rest. Resting replenishes Manna Vase charges but respawns regular enemies. If you only need another service, avoid the rest option and choose that service directly.

Some Shrines are disguised monsters. Defeat the creature before expecting the Shrine’s functions to become available. The service list and enemy-reset behavior are described in the Epic Games Store guide.
Turn a poise break into an Obliterate
Most enemies have a poise meter. Charged attacks, plunging attacks, backstabs, and Skyborn Might abilities can help break it. Once an enemy is stunned, strike from the front to perform an Obliterate. These are ways to pressure poise, not a guaranteed sequence against every enemy; adapt to the opening you can safely create.

Madness raises both reward and risk
Madness can rise when you defeat humanoid enemies or die, and fall when you defeat feathered enemies. Items and structures can also change it. Some skill perks benefit from high Madness, and higher Madness can increase Red Mercury gains—but it also increases damage dealt and damage received. Choose whether that risk fits your current progress instead of assuming that more Madness is always better.
At certain Madness thresholds, dying can cause an Inner Demon to appear near the place you fell. Defeat it to recover the Red Mercury you dropped; if the demon defeats you, that resource is lost. The official Wuchang site also presents the Inner Demon as the consequence of pushing the system too far. Treat a high-Madness run as a deliberate gamble, especially when carrying a large amount of Red Mercury.

Find upgrades and useful signals while exploring
Search golden chests for Manna Vase upgrades
Golden treasure chests can contain two kinds of upgrades: Forgotten Remembrance adds a Manna Vase charge, while Lost Remains increases the health recovered. The related skill-tree nodes still require Red Mercury, so finding an upgrade item does not by itself unlock every connected benefit.
Follow Goldwings to points of interest
Goldwings signal nearby points of interest and yield Aurum Feathers. Using an Aurum Feather randomly boosts maximum health, maximum stamina, or damage, so its effect is not a selectable stat choice.

Check NPCs and the Shrine teleport screen
Completing NPC quests may unlock companions that can be summoned with the Bone Whistle. The Shrine teleport screen can indicate when an NPC has new dialogue, making it worth checking when you return to a hub or revisit a Shrine.
Match armor to the threat ahead
Armor has combat stats and resistances. Before an area or boss, consider the damage types and status effects you expect; Xbox Wire’s guide lists slash, fire, blight, feathering, tenacity, corruption, frostbite, and paralysis among the concerns to prepare for. Adjusting resistances can help with a matchup, but it does not guarantee an easy fight. Xbox Wire’s guide recommends choosing armor with those threats in mind.
