The last chance to register interest in Nintendo Switch 2 through the process described in this headline has passed. Nintendo’s Australia and New Zealand registration terms set the first-round deadline at 11:59 AEST on 17 April 2025, with later rounds closing on 1 May and 12 May. Those dates are historical, not current preorder deadlines.
What the “last chance” headline referred to
Nintendo Australia called the process “Nintendo Switch 2 – Expressions of Interest” and titled its guidance “How to Register Your Interest.” It applied to residents of Australia and New Zealand; these rules should not be treated as a worldwide Nintendo preorder policy. The first-round terms said, “Register by: 11:59 AEST, 17 April 2025.” Subsequent registration rounds had deadlines of 1 May and 12 May 2025. All have expired. Who qualified for the Australia and New Zealand process
Applicants had to meet every condition in Nintendo Australia’s terms:
- Be a resident of Australia or New Zealand.
- Use a Nintendo Account registered to the same country as the applicant’s delivery address.
- Have purchased at least one year of qualifying paid Nintendo Switch Online membership.
- Have played Nintendo Switch games for more than 50 hours by 23:59 UTC on 28 February 2025.
- Be an active paid Nintendo Switch Online member when registering and when purchasing.
These were eligibility conditions for that specific, now-closed regional process—not requirements established for other regions or for current purchases.

Which console options registrants could choose
Eligible applicants could indicate interest in either or both options. They could be selected for only one, so expressing interest in both did not mean receiving two invitations.

What to know about buying a Switch 2 now
Nintendo announced a 5 June 2025 release for the console. Its announcement lists 256 GB of internal storage, with some storage reserved for system use, and says additional storage requires a microSD Express card. Nintendo also notes that some Nintendo Switch games may not be supported or fully compatible. Nintendo’s launch announcement contains those product details.
For current purchasing information, check Nintendo’s official store or support information for your region. Nintendo of America’s support guidance distinguishes digital eShop pre-orders from physical-item pre-purchases on Nintendo Store: it says physical pre-purchases are charged immediately and ship 1–3 business days after release.
