PS4 generally supports USB and Bluetooth keyboards, but that does not mean every game accepts keyboard controls. The game must support them. Before buying, check both the keyboard’s connection method and the current keyboard-and-mouse support for the specific game you want to play.
What kinds of keyboards work with PS4?
PlayStation’s PS4: The Ultimate FAQ – North America says, “Generally, PS4 will support USB keyboards,” and likewise says Bluetooth keyboards are generally supported. PlayStation Blog coverage also describes connecting a keyboard by USB cable or using a wireless keyboard with its USB receiver.
These are connection options, not a promise that every model or feature will work identically to its PC setup. The FAQ cautions that special-function keys designed to serve as PS3 controller buttons cannot be used on PS4. Check the exact keyboard’s compatibility information if you rely on extra keys or particular functions.
Will a gaming keyboard work in every PS4 game?
No. The console may recognize a keyboard, but each game determines whether keyboard controls are available. A keyboard can still be useful for text entry and general console navigation when a game does not support keyboard gameplay.

PlayStation Blog Germany’s 2020 coverage of mouse-and-keyboard play gave examples including Call of Duty: Warzone, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, War Thunder, Fortnite, Final Fantasy XIV and The Elder Scrolls Online. That list is historical, not a current compatibility guarantee. Check the game’s current information and settings before purchasing a keyboard for gameplay.
How to choose a keyboard for PS4
There is no established universal “best” PS4 gaming keyboard based on current comparative testing. Choose for your intended use, then verify the connection and game support rather than assuming that a gaming label ensures compatibility.

- Match the purpose: If you mainly need text entry or navigation, gameplay support may not matter. If you want to play with keyboard controls, verify support for the exact game.
- Check layout and size: Decide whether a full-size or smaller layout suits your setup, and confirm that it has the keys you need.
- Check special keys: Do not assume PC-specific function keys or keys designed for PS3 controller functions will work as expected on PS4.
- Compare claims carefully: The available PlayStation sources do not rank models for latency, durability, price or value. Treat those as model-specific buyer checks, not established PS4 performance rankings.
A practical starting point for shopping is USB gaming keyboard for PS4. Check the listing and manufacturer’s compatibility details for the exact model and connection type; a search result alone is not proof that its features work on PS4.
