Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 received 12 nominations at The Game Awards 2025, the most for any game in the show’s history at the time the nominees were announced. The total covers 10 categories: Best Performance had three individual nominees from the game. It went on to win nine awards, including Game of the Year.
How did the game get 12 nominations across 10 categories?
Epic Games Store reported the nominations on November 17, 2025, describing the total as a record for The Game Awards’ more-than-ten-year history at that point. The distinction is between categories and individual nominations: Clair Obscur appeared in 10 categories, and its three Best Performance nominees brought the count to 12.

What kind of game is Clair Obscur: Expedition 33?
SEGA describes it as a reactive turn-based RPG with real-time battle actions. Its fantasy setting, Lumière, draws inspiration from France’s Belle Époque. The story follows members of Expedition 33 as they try to stop the Paintress, who marks a number on a monolith each year and causes people of that age to die.

SEGA said the game had sold more than 5 million copies worldwide across digital and packaged editions as of its December 12, 2025 announcement. That is a dated publisher-reported figure, not a current sales total.

SEGA’s December 12, 2025 announcement also described a free update distributed across platforms and regions. It added an area, music by lead composer Lorien Testard, a difficult boss encounter with rewards, photo mode, seven localizations, and PC support for AMD FSR 4, alongside performance and handheld-PC optimizations. SEGA said the update brought supported languages to 19; those are details of that dated update, not a guarantee that the game has not changed since.
For Japan, SEGA announced a PS5 packaged edition released April 24, 2025, with a suggested retail price of ¥7,400 including tax. That price and release detail apply to that market and date; check local retailers for current editions, availability, and pricing.
