To start the Gravelord Nito boss fight in Dark Souls, progress through the Catacombs, defeat Pinwheel, and continue into the Tomb of the Giants. Follow the Tomb to the boss fog and drop into the arena. The coffin near the Catacombs’ Titanite Demon leads to Nito’s Gravelord Servant covenant altar—not to the boss fight.

How to reach Nito’s boss arena

  1. Continue through the Catacombs and defeat Pinwheel. The route onward leads into the Tomb of the Giants.

  2. Make your way through the Tomb of the Giants. The approach to Nito follows the Pinwheel Servant and baby-skeleton area.

  3. Pass through the boss fog, then drop into the arena to begin the encounter.

Why the Catacombs coffin does not start the fight

The coffin near the Titanite Demon takes you to Nito’s Gravelord Servant altar. It is a covenant route, not a boss entrance; you cannot attack Nito there. The reproduced Future Press guide describes using an Eye of Death to reach the altar and praying at the sarcophagus to join the covenant: Future Press guide reproduction. The Nito location reference also distinguishes the altar from the boss arena: Dark Souls Wiki: Gravelord Nito.

Getting through the Tomb and the arena

See your route in the dark

The Tomb of the Giants is very dark. Cast Light illuminates the area without requiring you to put away your weapon or shield; a Skull Lantern is another lighting aid found along the route. Neither is required to trigger the fight. See the Tomb of the Giants walkthrough and Skull Lantern reference.

Stay near the landing area

The boss-area reference describes three ordinary skeletons near your landing point and three giant skeletons farther away. Deal with the nearby skeletons and let Nito approach rather than moving deep into the arena, where you may draw in the distant giants. See Dark Souls Wiki: Nito boss-area notes.
