In phase two, make space from her butterfly storm, evade the final flying swoop, and move clear of its delayed butterfly trail. Romina is a required boss in the expansion’s main progression, so the fight is a key step toward finishing the story.
Where to find Romina
Romina waits at the Church of the Bud in the Ancient Ruins of Rauh. The route through the ruins can be confusing; PCGamesN’s Romina guide describes the approach from Shadow Keep. Dryleaf Dane’s summon sign is outside the arena. Summoning him is optional: he can draw Romina’s attention and create openings, but the guides do not describe his damage as especially high.
Prepare for Scarlet Rot and raise your Shadow Realm blessing
Use a rot countermeasure you can access
Several of Romina’s attacks can inflict Scarlet Rot. Preserving Boluses are a direct option named by Windows Central and PCGamesN. PCGamesN also recommends the Flame, Cleanse Me incantation, while EIP Gaming lists immunity-raising equipment or consumables. Choose what your character can use; there is no need to respec just for this fight.
Use Scadutree and Spirit Ash blessings if the fight feels punishing
Scadutree Blessing raises your attack power and damage negation in the Realm of Shadow. Revered Spirit Ash Blessing improves summoned ashes’ offense and defense. Bandai Namco’s official guide to entering the Realm of Shadow explains that “Scadutree Fragments are used to increase your level of the Scadutree Blessing.” Apply blessings at a Site of Grace; they only function in the Realm of Shadow. The guide accounts for these boosts, but it does not establish a required blessing level for Romina.

Choose damage your build can apply reliably
There is no universally best weapon or build for this encounter. The guides identify Frost as useful; PCGamesN also reports Bleed as a viable status option. EIP Gaming reports that Romina has no Fire resistance and low resistance to other damage types. These are guide-reported mechanics, not controlled comparisons, so prioritize what your character can land consistently.
- Melee: Favor a weapon and attack speed that let you punish short recovery windows without trading. Staying close can help some of her attacks pass overhead, but it does not make every swipe safe.
- Ranged and spell builds: Romina moves frequently. Cast when she is recovering or locked into an animation; slow casts and projectiles may miss or leave you open. Faster spells, close-range spells, or Fire incantations are options noted by EIP Gaming.
- Optional parries: EIP Gaming describes her poleblade attacks as parryable, particularly when they are not combined with centipede-head strikes. Use this only if parrying is already comfortable for you.
How to handle Romina’s attacks
Centipede bites, swipes, and body attacks
Read the body’s windup and dodge as it comes toward you. Rolling toward or through her can avoid follow-ups on several moves, according to EIP Gaming, but closeness alone will not evade every swipe. Watch the full animation rather than assuming that one dodge covers the sequence.

Poleblade strings
Pay attention to whether a slash continues into more hits. Dodge the complete string, then use the recovery to land measured attacks or cast. Avoid attacking into the sequence unless you are deliberately using a reliable parry.
Plunging stinger strike
Wait for the visual glint described by EIP Gaming, then dodge the plunge. Romina’s retreat afterward can give you a short opportunity to heal or attack.

Rolling attack
Track her curl and evade as she rolls toward you; the guides suggest dodging or blocking. EIP Gaming recommends rolling through her as she passes, while warning that a follow-up may come next. Do not assume the initial roll is the end of the attack.

Butterfly storm
When Romina gathers butterflies around herself, create distance from the close-range storm. EIP Gaming reports that the attack begins at about 59% health and recurs in phase two with a line aimed at the player; that percentage is one guide’s gameplay observation, not a guaranteed trigger. Move perpendicular to the aimed line rather than retreating straight along it.

Flying triple swoop and delayed trail
Romina makes three descending passes, with a delayed butterfly trail that explodes afterward. If you are positioned close, EIP Gaming recommends staying near her through the early passes and dodging the final pass diagonally toward her so it overshoots. Then move clear of the trail before it detonates. If you are far away, prioritize the timing of the final swoop and escaping the trail rather than forcing a close-range position.

A practical plan for the fight
- Before entering: Equip a Scarlet Rot response you can use, and apply available Shadow Realm blessings at a Site of Grace if you need more damage or survivability.
- At the start: Let Romina show an attack before committing. Stay near enough to punish recovery, but read each move rather than treating proximity as protection.
- During her strings: Evade the full sequence, then take a small punish window. For a ranged build, reserve longer casts for recovery or animations that limit her movement.
- In phase two: Respond to the butterfly storm with space and lateral movement. For the flying sequence, evade the last swoop and leave the delayed trail’s area.
- If attempts feel unusually punishing: Collect more Scadutree Fragments or reconsider your rot countermeasure before changing your entire build.
