No—you don’t need Xbox Game Pass to play Marvel Rivals on Xbox. The game is free-to-play, and the Microsoft Store listing identifies it as “Free+” with in-app purchases. It is not labeled as included with Game Pass in the Store listing reviewed. Game Pass may offer cloud play as a separate option in some regions and on select plans.
Is Marvel Rivals included with Xbox Game Pass?
The Microsoft Store’s Game Pass-filtered multiplayer category lists Marvel Rivals as “Free+.” Games included in the paid Game Pass catalog are explicitly labeled “Included with Game Pass” on that same page. The listing reviewed therefore does not support describing Marvel Rivals as a Game Pass catalog game. See the Microsoft Store category listing.
Marvel Rivals launched on Xbox on December 6, 2024, as a free-to-play game, according to the official launch announcement. “Free+” means the game is free to download, with in-app purchases listed by the Store; it does not mean the game is included in a paid subscription.
Do you need Game Pass to download and play it?
No. You can install and play the free-to-play game without subscribing to Game Pass. The publisher’s July 2024 closed-beta FAQ said a subscription was not required during the beta. That statement predates launch, so the current Microsoft Store “Free+” listing is the more relevant confirmation of its present free-to-play status.

Can you play Marvel Rivals through Xbox Cloud Gaming?
Cloud play is a separate way to access the game, not proof that it is included in the paid Game Pass catalog. An Xbox India product page lists cloud play with Game Pass Essential, Premium, or Ultimate. That plan list is specific to the India page and should not be assumed to apply in every country. Check the Xbox India listing or your local Xbox product page for current options.

Xbox says that game and feature availability varies over time and by region, Game Pass plan, and platform. Its Game Pass in-game benefits page also describes benefits for participating free-to-play games, but the current page reviewed did not establish a Marvel Rivals-specific benefit. Verify the game’s local listing before relying on cloud access or expecting a subscription perk.
