Which platforms can play Gran Turismo 7 together?
| Players’ platforms | What the official listings establish |
|---|---|
| PS4 and PS5 | Online play across the two PlayStation generations is supported. The PlayStation Store listing and Gran Turismo’s product page list the game for PlayStation and describe online racing. |
| PlayStation and PC | Not listed as supported on the official platform pages checked. |
| PlayStation and Xbox | Not listed as supported on the official platform pages checked. |
“Cross-platform” can imply that players on different platform families can race together. For GT7, the precise description is PS4–PS5 cross-generation online play. These official listings reflect the platforms shown when checked on October 8, 2026; they do not rule out a future platform announcement.

What do you need for online play?
- PlayStation Plus: Sony’s US PlayStation Store listing says “PS Plus required for online play.” Subscription terms can vary by region and account.
- Online player limit: The same US listing gives a maximum of 20 online players with PS Plus. This is a listed capacity, not a promise that every race or lobby will include 20 players.

Can you play the PS4 version on a PS5?
Yes. PlayStation Support says the PS4 version of GT7 can be played on a PS5. If you own the standard-edition PS4 game, Sony says you can purchase an upgrade to the PS5 digital version.
If you own a PS4 disc
To use a PS4 disc and upgrade it, you need a PS5 with a disc drive. The disc cannot be used with a PS5 Digital Edition. Check the current store listing and whether you are buying a disc or a digital entitlement before choosing an edition.

Are any features limited to one console generation?
Yes. PlayStation VR2 support is exclusive to the PS5 version, according to Gran Turismo’s product page. This is a version-specific feature, not a requirement for PS4–PS5 online racing.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Does Wi-Fi work for PS4–PS5 online play?
Gran Turismo’s online guidance says PS4 and PS5 systems can connect over Wi-Fi or a wired connection, and recommends wired connectivity for greater stability. Room settings show connection quality and NAT type, which can help diagnose connection problems. A wired connection is a stability recommendation, not a stated requirement for cross-generation matchmaking.
