Dispatch pairs a choice-driven superhero workplace comedy with a compact hero-management loop: you send a roster of former supervillains to emergencies, matching their abilities to each job while navigating relationships and office politics. It has the appeal of a Telltale-style interactive story, but it is not an open-ended management simulator.
What kind of game is Dispatch?
Dispatch is a single-player action-adventure and strategy game developed and published by AdHoc Studio. The Steam listing gives its release date as October 22, 2025, and says all episodes are out. Steam’s Dispatch listing describes it as a superhero workplace comedy about managing a dysfunctional team and deciding who to send to emergencies.
You play Robert Robertson, also known as Mecha Man. After his mech suit is destroyed, he takes a dispatcher job at a superhero dispatch center. From there, he helps rehabilitate former supervillains, manages their roster, and works toward rebuilding his suit. The premise turns superhero crises into workplace problems: you are not usually rushing into the field yourself, but deciding which hero should handle the call.
How much management gameplay is in Dispatch?
The central management activity is assigning heroes to emergencies. Calls have different needs, and the heroes bring different stats and abilities, so the job is to weigh the situation against the strengths of the available roster. PC Gamer’s November 13, 2025 review describes two shifts in most episodes, an RPG-lite upgrade system, team-ups, hacking minigames, and story events that can affect which heroes are available for a shift.

That creates recurring decisions, but within a tightly authored adventure. You evaluate calls and people rather than building an organization from scratch, expanding a city, or running an indefinitely evolving simulation. The management layer gives the story’s superhero workplace a playable routine; it does not turn Dispatch into a systems-first management sim.
Are the choices meaningful?
Yes, but their consequences are primarily about characters and the story. Dialogue and field decisions can affect relationships with heroes, their allegiances, and the direction of the narrative. The team’s dynamics and availability can also matter during dispatch shifts, tying some story events back to the management loop.
That is different from a simulation where every choice is chiefly a long-term optimization problem. In Dispatch, decisions serve both dramatic and tactical purposes: they help define how Robert relates to the team, while assignment choices ask which hero fits a particular emergency. The game’s appeal depends on enjoying both kinds of consequence.
Is Dispatch like a Telltale game?
It is a useful comparison for the episodic structure and emphasis on dialogue, character relationships, and choices, not a promise that every scene is interactive. PC Gamer characterizes the game as an eight-episode, tightly scripted story and notes that some scenes offer less direct interaction than the dispatch segments. That is a reviewer’s assessment of the balance, rather than an official genre label.

AdHoc’s history helps explain the fit: the studio says Dispatch began as an interactive live-action series in 2019, was shelved when live production stopped in 2020, and returned as an animated video game in October 2022. In a March 11, 2026 report on a GDC talk, PC Gamer described the team’s effort to make gameplay feel worthwhile rather than like an obligatory interruption. AdHoc cofounder and creative director Nick Herman put the goal plainly: “We just needed it to not suck.”

- It may suit you especially well if you enjoy matching abilities to mission needs, upgrading a roster, and seeing team relationships influence the work.
- Look elsewhere if you want a deep, open-ended management sim with broad control over staffing, operations, and long-term systems, or if you prefer a story game where nearly every scene gives you extensive direct control.
AdHoc’s official About page also gives a sense of the project’s narrative scale: it lists 809 credited people, a 495-page final script before rewrites, pickups, and unused material, and 356 minutes of animation. Those are studio-reported production figures, not measures of how much of the game is playable.
