Pokémon GO’s Ultra Unlock: Better Together event ran July 17–22, 2024, and introduced Tandemaus and Maushold. The event has ended, so its Timed Research and event bonuses are no longer available. Here’s what the event offered and how players could encounter and evolve Tandemaus.
When did Better Together run?
Niantic scheduled the event from Wednesday, July 17, at 10:00 a.m. through Monday, July 22, 2024, at 8:00 p.m. local time. These were local start and end times, not a single global time window. Niantic’s event announcement has the original details.

How could you get and evolve Tandemaus?
Tandemaus and its evolution, Maushold, made their Pokémon GO debuts during Better Together. The announced evolution requirement was 50 Tandemaus Candy.
- Party Play: Tandemaus could appear in Party Play encounters, but Niantic qualified this with “if you’re lucky.”
- Timed Research: Free event-themed Timed Research offered encounters with Tandemaus and other event-themed Pokémon, alongside XP and Stardust.
- Field Research: Event-themed Field Research could reward a Tandemaus encounter.
The announcement did not provide a task-by-task Timed Research walkthrough or a total reward count.

- 2× Catch Candy.
- Faster Friendship-level increases when opening Gifts, trading Pokémon, or battling together in raids, Gyms, and Trainer Battles. The announced faster progression applied to those activities.
Which Pokémon appeared during the event?
Wild encounters
These Pokémon were announced as appearing more frequently in the wild:
- Vulpix and Alolan Vulpix
- Diglett and Alolan Diglett
- Meowth, Alolan Meowth, and Galarian Meowth
- Exeggcute
- Wooper and Paldean Wooper
- Zigzagoon and Galarian Zigzagoon
- Combee
- Binacle
Trainers might also encounter Alolan Exeggutor, Magneton, and Klink. The announcement marked certain Pokémon as potentially Shiny; that meant a chance, not a guaranteed Shiny encounter.

Shiny availability was noted only for marked species and was not guaranteed.
Field Research encounters
Event-themed Field Research could reward encounters with Slowpoke, Galarian Slowpoke, Voltorb, Hisuian Voltorb, Koffing, Combee, Darumaka, Galarian Darumaka, Vanillite, Deino, and Tandemaus. As with the other event encounter lists, Shiny eligibility applied only to species marked in the announcement and did not promise a Shiny.

What else was available?
The event’s free Timed Research awarded XP, Stardust, and encounters with Tandemaus and event-themed Pokémon. The Tandemaus Hoodie and Tandemaus Slippers were in-game avatar items available for purchase during the event; Niantic said they would remain available after it ended. They are digital cosmetics, not physical merchandise.
