It introduced shiny Scatterbug, Spewpa and Vivillon, offered temporary PokéStop and Gift bonuses, and included optional paid Timed Research that expired with the event. One related change—the higher Lucky Pokémon trade limit—was permanent.
When did Scattered to the Winds run?
The event ran from Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. through Thursday, February 20, 2025, at 8:00 p.m. local time, according to the official Pokémon GO announcement. Its event bonuses and paid Timed Research are no longer available. The announcement does not establish whether the event or its offers will return.
What were the event bonuses?
During the event, Trainers received these temporary bonuses:
- 2× XP for spinning PokéStops.
- 5× XP for spinning a PokéStop for the first time.
- The ability to open up to 40 Gifts per day, or up to 60 with the Eggs-pedition Access: February ticket.
- An increased chance of encountering Shiny Pidgey.
These were event-limited benefits, not ongoing bonuses.

How did players get Scatterbug?
Pinning postcards from Trainers around the world could lead to Scatterbug encounters. During Scattered to the Winds, Scatterbug, Spewpa and Vivillon made their shiny debuts in Pokémon GO, and the chance of encountering a shiny Scatterbug through the postcard mechanic was increased. The event’s announcement describes the postcard method and shiny debut at Pokémon GO Live.
Which Pokémon appeared in the wild?
Caterpie, Pidgey, Spearow, Wurmple and Starly appeared more frequently during the event. Their shiny forms could also appear if players were lucky, as noted in the official event announcement.

What research and challenges were available?
Field Research
Event-themed Field Research could reward Rare Candy or encounters with featured Pokémon. Leek Duck’s contemporaneous Scattered to the Winds event guide listed these examples:
- Explore 2 km: one Rare Candy.
- Spin 5 PokéStops or Gyms: a possible encounter with Caterpie, Pidgey or Starly.
- Send a Gift with a sticker: a possible encounter with Pidgey or Wurmple.
- Send 3 Gifts and add a sticker to each: a Pidgey encounter.
Evolution-focused Collection Challenge
The Collection Challenge awarded XP, Stardust and an encounter with Scyther. The official summary does not list every Pokémon or step required.

Optional paid Timed Research
The event-exclusive Timed Research cost US$5 or the equivalent local pricing tier. Its listed rewards included 16,500 Stardust, three Rare Candies, an event-themed avatar pose and encounters with event-themed Pokémon. Tasks and rewards had to be completed and claimed by February 20, 2025, at 8:00 p.m. local time; the offer has expired. The official announcement lists the headline rewards, while Leek Duck’s guide details a two-step sequence with activities such as walking 1 km, spinning PokéStops or Gyms, and sending a stickered Gift, alongside rewards including Incense, Stardust, XP, items, Pokémon encounters and the Pen Pal Pose.
Leek Duck also reported a historical 2025 Web Store Scattered to the Winds Ultra Ticket Box for US$4.99 or local equivalent. It included the paid Timed Research ticket, one bonus Star Piece and one Incubator; it is not a current purchase option.

Which event changes were permanent?
The Lucky Trade update announced alongside the event was permanent, unlike the event bonuses. The guaranteed Lucky Pokémon limit increased from 25 to 35. Starting February 18, 2025, a Pokémon that had been in a Trainer’s storage since 2019 was guaranteed to become Lucky when traded, until that Trainer reached the limit.
