Ubisoft announced Rainbow Six Siege X on February 17, 2025, as a major evolution of the existing game—not a separate sequel—and scheduled its showcase for March 13, 2025. Siege X later launched as a free update for existing owners on June 10, 2025. New players can try selected modes through Free Access, while Ranked and other content require payment.
What Ubisoft announced about Siege X
Ubisoft’s February 17, 2025 announcement, made during the Six Invitational, described Siege X as the beginning of a new era for Rainbow Six Siege. The planned showcase was set for March 13 and was to reveal the game’s future, including graphics and audio improvements, deeper tactical gameplay, and new ways to play. Ubisoft directed viewers to the official Rainbow Six Siege Twitch channel.
Ubisoft framed Siege X as a transformation of Rainbow Six Siege, not as a standalone follow-up. Neowin attributed the line “It is not Siege 2, and it’s not just another update. It’s a major evolution” to game director Joshua Mills. That wording is available through the report’s search passage; an official transcript confirming the exact quote was not established.
Was the reveal really three hours?
Contemporary coverage said the showcase was expected to run for three hours. That was an expectation reported ahead of the event, not a verified runtime: Ubisoft’s announcement confirms the date and planned broadcast, but does not state how long the showcase actually lasted.

When did Siege X launch?
Siege X went live on June 10, 2025. Ubisoft described it as a free update for existing Rainbow Six Siege owners, who retained their content and progression. The company’s roadmap, last updated September 23, 2026, records the launch as released and continues to identify Rainbow Six Siege as a live game. Ubisoft notes that roadmap target dates can change.
At launch, Siege X included the permanent 6v6 Dual Front mode and five modernized maps, according to Ubisoft’s roadmap. Those are launch details, not a claim that the current game has only five modernized maps.

How access works
The right access route depends on whether you already own Siege and which modes or content you want. Ubisoft’s June 10, 2025 launch article lists the following distinction:
| Player situation | Access described by Ubisoft |
|---|---|
| Already owns Rainbow Six Siege | Siege X arrives as a free update; existing content and progression carry over. |
| New player using Free Access | Quick Match, Unranked, and Dual Front are available. |
| Wants Ranked or Siege Cup | These require payment to unlock. |
| Wants additional Operators or cosmetics | These require payment to unlock. |
Ubisoft listed PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Ubisoft Connect, Steam, and Epic Games as distribution platforms; Ubisoft+ Premium was also listed as an access route. The cited launch information establishes availability, not a performance comparison between platforms.

What the announcement means now
The March 2025 showcase was the reveal milestone; it is no longer an upcoming event. The useful current distinction is between the free update for existing owners and Free Access for new players, which covers selected modes rather than every feature. Ubisoft’s 2025 press boilerplate cited over 80 million registered players; that is a cumulative registration figure, not a current active-player count.
