One important practical point is that a player can still concede even if an effect says they cannot lose: concession makes that player leave the game and lose. For the rule’s exact, current subparagraphs, consult Wizards’ Comprehensive Rules.
What Rule 104.3 covers
Rule 104.3 is part of the Comprehensive Rules section on winning and losing a game. It addresses ways a player can lose; it is not a rule that means a player automatically loses whenever a particular card or effect is involved.
The full current wording and subparagraph list should be checked in Wizards’ official Comprehensive Rules. Wizards’ September 21, 2026 Reality Fracture Update Bulletin says the official rules take precedence over the bulletin’s summaries.
Can you concede if an effect says you cannot lose?
Yes. Wizards’ September 18, 2026 Reality Fracture Release Notes give the example of Darksteel Angel on the battlefield and explain that a player may still concede. As the notes put it: “A concession causes you to leave the game, which then causes you to lose the game.”

In other words, an effect that prevents a player from losing does not prevent that player from choosing to concede. Concession ends that player’s participation by making them leave the game.
What happens when a player leaves a multiplayer game?
A multiplayer game can continue after a player leaves. Their departure can also affect objects they own and control effects associated with them. The exact consequences depend on the current rules and the game state, so use the current Comprehensive Rules rather than older summaries to resolve a particular situation.
Wizards’ Archenemy: Nicol Bolas Release Notes from June 16, 2017, and its Multiplayer Rules article from July 12, 2004, provide background on players leaving multiplayer games. They are older context, not a substitute for current rules text.
