You can play with friends in The Crew 2 once you start the game in Online Mode and have an internet connection. Select Online Mode in the startup flow; Offline Mode is for solo play and disables Crews and other multiplayer content.
When can you play with friends in The Crew 2?
Choose Online Mode when the game starts. Ubisoft describes it as the original experience with multiplayer features, including Crews. The available official information does not specify a tutorial completion point, Fame rank, or Crew Management unlock required before you can send or accept an invite, so an exact in-game unlock time is not established.

How to get into the mode that supports friends
- Connect to the internet before starting or returning to the game’s login screen.
- Select Online Mode in the startup or login flow.
- Invite or join friends using the game’s available Crew options. If the game has started Offline Mode, return to the login screen and select Online Mode instead.
If you launch without an internet connection, the game automatically starts in Offline Mode. Ubisoft added a return-to-login option in its April 22, 2026 update, making it possible to switch modes without treating offline play as a route to online multiplayer.

Ubisoft’s Hybrid Mode announcement lists offline exclusions as “All multiplayer content, including PvP, Crews, crew features, news feed, leaderboards, ghosts, and statistics menus.” The April 22, 2026 update added offline livery creation, importing saved online liveries and sticker groups, offline statistics, and the option to return to login. It did not announce a change to the Online Mode requirement for Crews.

How online and offline saves work
Online progression can be exported to an offline save, but progress made offline does not carry back into the online save. Exporting online progression again overwrites the existing offline save. Treat the two modes as separate progression paths rather than expecting offline play to update your online character.
What to check if you still cannot play together
- Confirm the selected mode: you and your friend need access to Online Mode; Offline Mode disables Crews.
- Check your connection: if the game launched offline, reconnect and return to the login screen to choose Online Mode.
- Check platform and region details: the official sources cited here do not establish a current cross-play matrix, platform subscription requirements, or whether every trial instance supports multiplayer. Confirm compatibility and access terms with your platform’s store and game information before relying on them.
Can you try The Crew 2 before buying?
Ubisoft’s current game page advertises a four-hour trial, but that offer does not establish identical availability or multiplayer access on every platform or in every country. Check your platform’s store for the current offer and its terms. A historical Ubisoft free-weekend FAQ refers to that event only and should not be treated as the current trial policy.
