As of October 8, 2026, Epic’s official documentation does not name a version after v42.30, which Epic dated October 1, 2026. If you searched for “Fortnite v39.50,” you are looking at a February 2026 release that is now several versions behind. The latest confirmed update is v42.30, and the sections below explain what changed, how its downtime ran, and where to check for an announcement.
Why v39.50 is no longer the reference point
Epic’s release notes for v39.50 are dated February 19, 2026. That update added management tools for Fortnite Communities, animation and content-browser additions, ecosystem changes, and fixes across UEFN and related creator tools. It is a historical release. Any guide that still presents v39.50 as the current or upcoming version is out of date.

How the v42.30 downtime ran
The v42.30 update came with planned maintenance. Epic’s announcement said downtime would begin at 4 AM ET (8 AM UTC), with matchmaking disabled 30 minutes beforehand. Epic’s status record shows maintenance starting at 08:00 UTC on October 1 and completing at 10:31 UTC, which is about two and a half hours.
Treat that window as one past example. It does not tell you how long the next maintenance period will last, and it does not establish a pattern. Each planned downtime is announced separately.

How to confirm the next update and downtime
If you need to know when the next version or maintenance window is scheduled, check these channels in order:
- Open Epic’s Public Status page and look for a scheduled maintenance entry. Status entries show planned start and end times in UTC.
- Check FortniteStatus, a third-party tracker that Epic’s player support guidance lists alongside its own status page for maintenance updates.
- Read the Fortnite News page for patch and event announcements.
- Look at the Epic Developer Community release notes for the version number. A new version is documented there before or alongside its release.
- Watch for in-game messages. Epic’s support article on scheduled maintenance says: “In-game emergency messaging will be posted ~24 hours before a planned downtime.”
What to do if downtime shows up without warning
- If the Public Status page shows no scheduled maintenance, but you cannot connect, check the status page for an unplanned incident before restarting your device or reinstalling the game.
- If an in-game message appears inside the 24-hour window, note the start time it lists and convert it to your local time zone, since Epic’s own examples use ET and UTC.
- Epic’s player support article When will the Fortnite scheduled maintenance be over? is the reference for questions about when a maintenance period ends.
Because no later date has been published in the official sources reviewed for this article, the most reliable answer to “When is the next update?” is the one Epic’s own channels give. Check them before you plan around a release.
