Every other spawn lead in circulation comes from community guides or from Bethesda’s event announcements, and none of them guarantees an appearance. Bigfoot is the newest addition, arriving with The Backwoods update in 2026 as an event-based guest rather than a fixed resident.
“Cryptid” is used loosely, so the scope matters. Bethesda’s guide covers a short, selective roster. The challenge classification used by the community challenge database from Nukes & Dragons groups a narrower set of creatures. The Nuka Knights community guide, dated January 3, 2024, covers a wider cast, including creatures the other two leave out. The sections below keep those lists apart so you can tell an official tip from a community lead.
How encounters work
Creatures in Fallout 76 turn up in four different ways, and a listed location does not mean a creature will be there on every visit.
- Named locations are places where a creature has been reported, such as Welch Station for Sheepsquatch. A creature is not guaranteed on each visit.
- Random encounter points are map spots where a creature can appear on a given visit. Several community guides list random points for the same creature, and some tie them to a time of day, such as night for the Flatwoods Monster.
- Quests can be the only route to a creature. The Beast of Beckley is listed once, in the Van Lowe quest series.
- Public and seasonal events, such as Grafton Day, Spin the Wheel or the Mothman Equinox, can bring a creature in for a limited period. Event lineups change, so check the in-game event schedule before planning around one.
Many creatures appear under more than one of these headings, so read each creature’s entry as a set of options rather than a single guaranteed route.

Creature-by-creature leads
Mothman
Bethesda says Mothman has been in Fallout 76 since launch and warns that it does not look like the statue in Point Pleasant’s museum. Community leads include random encounter points, Path of Enlightenment, the seasonal Mothman Equinox, the Enclave Research Facility and Transmission Station 1AT-U03, and Queen of the Hunt. The Nuka Knights guide also mentions Mothman hatchlings appearing with cultists in Daily Ops.
Bethesda’s advice: “Gear up with energy weapons for this fight, keep your head on a swivel, and remember, if you hear ominous noises and feel like you’re being watched, you probably are.” The February 20, 2026 guide credits no individual author, so attribute this to Bethesda’s guide.
Grafton Monster
Bethesda’s answer is simple: Grafton is the place to look. Community leads add the Charleston Trainyard, the Charleston Capitol Building, the area south of Hemlock Holes, and occasional sightings in Whitespring and at Dry Lake in Toxic Valley. Event leads include Grafton Day, Project Paradise, Heart of the Swamp, Spin the Wheel, Queen of the Hunt and some Primal Cuts events.

Bethesda’s combat tip: “Aim for the blowholes and stay out of its way when it tries to charge.”
Sheepsquatch
Bethesda points players to Welch Station and warns about its ram. Community leads include random encounter points, the Free Range, Spin the Wheel, Project Paradise and Primal Cuts events. Bethesda’s advice is short: “Don’t let it ram you.”
Flatwoods Monster
The Nuka Knights guide lists the Flatwoods Monster at random encounter points at night. It says the creature may also appear in Invaders from Above, Campfire Tales, Daily Ops, Queen of the Hunt and Making Sacrifices. The same guide says it counts as an Alien for challenges. That is a community reference, so confirm the current challenge objective in game. Nighttime points are where it can appear, not where it reliably will.
Snallygaster
Community leads include the Flooded Trainyard, Toxic Larry’s Meat ‘n Go, the Charleston area between Hornwright Industrial Headquarters and the Charleston Capitol Building, Federal Waste Disposal Field HZ-21, Pylon V-13, Kiddie Corner Cabins, Treetops, Hemlock Holes, and the Scorched Earth event. Flooded Trainyard is also the top challenge hub; the hub section below explains what that count does and does not mean.

Wendigo and Wendigo Colossus
The Wendigo has the longest list of community leads. Named locations include Pylon Ambush, Willard Corporate Housing, Garrahan Estate, Fort Defiance, Haven Church, Lewisburg, Freddy Fear’s House of Scares, the R&D area at Garrahan Mining Headquarters, Mountainside Bed & Breakfast, Big B’s Rest Stop, KMAX Broadcast, Seneca Rocks Visitor Center, Watoga Emergency Services, Drop Sites C2 and G3, Firebase LT, Sal’s Grinders, Wendigo Cave, and a tree near Abbie’s Bunker.
Events and random encounters work differently from these named spots. The community guide lists A Colossal Problem, One Violent Night, Scorched Earth and random encounter points. The Wendigo Colossus is the boss in A Colossal Problem at Monongah Mine, and the guide names Earle Williams as that boss.
Ogua
Bethesda’s June 20, 2023 “Once in a Blue Moon” update notes identify Ogua as a new cryptid introduced through public events. It appears in the Beasts of Burden event. The Nuka Knights guide also lists it at random encounter points. The 2023 notes describe what the update released, not a current event schedule.
Blue Devil
Blue Devil was introduced in the same 2023 update, alongside its new events. The Nuka Knights guide lists it at Safe and Sound and at random encounter points. The update’s events offered in-game rewards such as cryptid plushies, outfits, C.A.M.P. items and weapon skins.

Mega Sloth
Community guides list Mega Sloths in the Mire and Cranberry Bog. Specific leads include the Southern Belle Motel, Omicron Fissure Site, Tanagra Town, Treetops, and the stretch between KMAX Transmission and Camp Venture. Seasonal Fasnacht and Scorched Earth may also feature them.
Angler
Anglers appear in the challenge grouping, and community leads include Gnarled Shallows, Braxon’s Quality Medical Supplies, Treehouse Village, Pylon V-13, Safe and Sound, Spin the Wheel and Scorched Earth. The Nuka Knights guide says Anglers are not folklore cryptids in the traditional sense. Treat them as challenge creatures rather than lore cryptids.
Beast of Beckley
The Nuka Knights guide says the Beast of Beckley appears once, in the Van Lowe quest series, and has no other spawns outside that quest.
Jersey Devil
Jersey Devil appears in broad cryptid listings for Fallout 76, but the Nuka Knights guide’s section on it is dated 2024 and written in future tense. No current location or quest route is confirmed, so do not rely on that older wording.

Bigfoot
Bigfoot is the newest entry on the list. Bethesda’s May 5, 2026 guest guide, “Six Uninvited Guests from Fallout 76’s The Backwoods update,” describes it as a unique four-star Legendary enemy introduced in The Backwoods. It may appear as an Uninvited Guest at the end of select Public Events. The guide lists PC (Steam), Xbox and PlayStation as platforms for the game.
Bethesda says: “Uninvited Guests are not guaranteed at every Public Event.” Frequency, eligible events and rewards are subject to change. Bethesda also says Bigfoot applies environmental pressure, including throwing large ticks, and that defeating it rewards exclusive loot. No fixed spawn point is published, so the practical approach is to play the Public Events and respond when the guest appears at the end of one.

Nukes & Dragons identifies three hubs for challenge creatures. Its database lists seven fixed challenge-group spawns at Flooded Trainyard, five fixed nearby at Big Maw, and four fixed at Charleston. The same database covers 70 locations, 94 fixed spawns and 44 chance-spawn points across Appalachia. The page is undated and was accessed on October 8, 2026.
These figures come from an unofficial community database. They show where challenge creatures are recorded, not how often any creature appears, and they are not Bethesda spawn-rate statistics. A high count at Flooded Trainyard covers the whole challenge group, not any single creature. No official Bethesda encounter-rate figure exists for these creatures in the sources cited here.
If you are working through challenges, the hubs are the most efficient starting points. If you are hunting one creature, use its own entry above. Confirm the live challenge list in game before you build a checklist, because the grouping reflects the database’s categories.
