Reach the area by travelling from the Forgotten Kingdom through the Ruined Cave and Ashen Passage, then dropping through the opening blocked by two Basalt Veins. You can mine the veins yourself or use the opening if another player has cleared it.
Route to the Volcanic Depths
- Unlock the Forgotten Kingdom. Progress through Sensei Moro’s quests and reach level 10, then use the in-game Portal Tool to travel to the kingdom. This progression requirement is reported by guides published in December 2025: Beebom and All Things How.
- Find the Ruined Cave and enter Ashen Passage. Guides point to the right-hand route beneath or near the “DANGER” sign. One route description also mentions taking the cannon near spawn to reach Captain Rowan’s camp.
- Locate the Basalt Veins. Continue through Ashen Passage until you reach an opening blocked by two Basalt Veins. The guides place it near the Magma Pickaxe; one also identifies Amber, while another mentions a warning sign.
- Clear or pass the opening. The guides give slightly different pickaxe requirements: Beebom says more than 78 damage, while All Things How says at least 78 base damage. If mining fails, check the pickaxe’s base damage in-game. If another player has already broken the veins, drop through the open passage instead.
- Drop into the Volcanic Depths. Elite Rogue Skeletons are reported in this area. Watch for lava hazards and other dangerous enemies as you move around.
Can you reach the skeletons without breaking the Basalt Veins?
Yes, if another player has already opened the passage. The guides describe the veins as an access barrier, not a requirement that every player must personally mine. If the opening is still blocked, you will need a pickaxe that meets the reported damage threshold to clear it.
Is the route useful for farming Greater Essence?
All Things How reported a 1-in-6 Greater Essence drop chance from Elite Rogue Skeletons in a guide published in December 2025. The same guide lists Deathaxe Skeletons in Sunken Cells as an alternative with a reported 1-in-8 chance, describing that area as a lower-pressure option for players who are not ready for elite fights. These are guide-reported rates, not independently confirmed current drop tables; game balance and drops may change. See All Things How.
What may differ between versions or guides?
The December 2025 guides agree that the destination is the Volcanic Depths, but vary in how they describe nearby landmarks and whether the pickaxe must do more than 78 damage or at least 78 base damage. Treat those details, along with the reported drop rates, as version-sensitive and verify them in-game if the route or mining requirement does not match.
