Forza 1 is the informal name for Forza Motorsport, the 2005 racing game for the original Xbox. It was not set in one city or country. Its races took place across 17 track locations with 35 layouts, a mix of licensed real-world circuits and original Forza venues invented for the game. The short answer is that the game spans multiple race tracks, both real and fictional.
What “Forza 1” refers to
“Forza 1” is shorthand for the first entry in the series, Forza Motorsport, released on the original Xbox. Turn 10 Studios lists its release date as May 3, 2005. The game was later followed by sequels on newer hardware, so when readers search for the first game’s location, they usually mean that 2005 original.

How many tracks the game included
In its 20th-anniversary retrospective published in 2025, Turn 10 Studios describes the original game as featuring over 230 cars, 17 track locations with 35 layouts, accessible physics, and a Career mode with five distinct racing series. A “track location” is a venue, and a “layout” is a specific course configuration at that venue, so a single location can host more than one race configuration. These are the studio’s figures for the game as released in 2005.
Real-world circuits
Many of the game’s venues were real racing circuits. Turn 10’s retrospective names Laguna Seca and Road Atlanta among the tracks in the first game. The manual for the original Xbox version credits licensed circuits including Laguna Seca, Nürburgring, Silverstone, Tsukuba, Road America, and Road Atlanta. Those are the circuits that can be confirmed by name from the sources available here.

Original Forza venues
The game also included venues created for the series rather than taken from real life. Turn 10 identifies Maple Valley, Fujimi Kaido, and Sunset Peninsula among its tracks. These are the clearest examples of the fictional side of the game’s map.

Why there is no single answer
Because the game drew from both licensed circuits and invented courses, asking where it was “located” has no single geographic answer. A player racing at Silverstone and a player racing at Maple Valley are on venues with different real-world origins, and the game does not place them on one shared map. The most accurate way to describe the setting is a collection of venues rather than a single world.

What is not established
The available sources do not say what real-world places, if any, inspired each fictional venue. Maple Valley, Fujimi Kaido, and Sunset Peninsula should not be linked to a particular country, state, or town on the basis of their names alone. Current availability, condition, and compatibility of physical copies of the original Xbox game are also outside what these sources cover, so readers looking to play it should check those details directly before buying.
