Desmond Miles is the central modern-day character in the first five main Assassin’s Creed games: Assassin’s Creed, Assassin’s Creed II, Brotherhood, Revelations, and Assassin’s Creed III. His story concludes in Assassin’s Creed III, according to Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed game-order guide.
Which Assassin’s Creed games is Desmond in?
Desmond’s central modern-day story runs through these five games, in release order:
- Assassin’s Creed (2007)
- Assassin’s Creed II (2009)
- Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood (2010)
- Assassin’s Creed: Revelations (2011)
- Assassin’s Creed III (2012)
Ubisoft’s guide identifies the first game as Desmond’s introduction and Assassin’s Creed III as the conclusion of his story. This list describes his central story arc, not every later cameo, mention, or database entry in the franchise.
How Desmond connects the games
Desmond is the modern-day protagonist of this early arc; the historical adventures take place in the memories of his ancestors. The first game follows Altaïr, the next three follow Ezio Auditore, and Assassin’s Creed III follows Connor. Ubisoft’s retrospective describes Desmond as “the glue between all the episodes, all of the first games,” in a statement attributed to creative director Jean Guesdon.

Assassin’s Creed (2007)
Desmond is introduced as a modern-day captive forced to experience the memories of his ancestor Altaïr.
Assassin’s Creed II (2009)
The modern-day storyline continues after Desmond is freed by modern-day Assassins. The historical story introduces Ezio Auditore.

Brotherhood (2010) and Revelations (2011)
Both games continue Desmond’s modern-day thread alongside Ezio’s historical story. Ubisoft notes that Revelations added modern-day “Animus Limbo” segments.
Assassin’s Creed III (2012)
This game completes Desmond’s central story arc, while its historical storyline follows Connor.

How to play Desmond’s games in order
For the full arc, play the five titles in release order. You can buy or access them individually for your platform, or use the Ezio Collection for the middle three and get the first game and Assassin’s Creed III separately.
