There is no established overall best starter in Pokémon Brick Bronze. The game reference lists 21 starter families with different advantages for different battle styles. Pick the line you enjoy and build the rest of your team around it; if you want a conditional defensive pick, Mudkip is notable because its final evolution, Swampert, is listed with only one weakness: Grass.
How to choose a starter
Pokémon Brick Bronze offers 21 starter families: seven Grass, seven Fire, and seven Water choices, spanning starters from seven regions. Their evolution levels and final typings vary, so the best fit depends on which stages and battle style you prefer. The Brick Bronze Wiki’s starter reference describes the options as having different advantages rather than naming a universal winner.
- Consider defensive matchups. Swampert is listed with one weakness, Grass. The Rowlet line has a distinct trait: the reference describes it as the only starter line with a type immunity at every stage.
- Look at the full evolution line. Starter families evolve at different levels, and their later forms may have different typings from their first stage.
- Plan for team coverage. You can catch other Pokémon during play to help cover a starter’s weaknesses.
- Choose the style and Pokémon you like. Personal preference is a reasonable deciding factor when the available evidence does not establish an overall ranking.
What to expect in the opening battles
Every starter begins with a basic Normal-type attack and a move that lowers an opponent’s stat. Some also start with an elemental attack matching their primary type, which gets a type-matching damage boost. Those differences alone do not establish that one starter performs best in the early game; the available walkthrough does not provide a controlled comparison of their opening battles.
Why there is no definitive ranking
The available game references describe starter advantages and tradeoffs, but do not provide a complete gym-by-gym comparison or controlled performance data. A community discussion includes players’ personal picks—among them Mudkip, Squirtle, Litten, and Popplio—but those comments reflect individual preferences and playthroughs, not a representative poll or verified tier list. The sources are community-maintained rather than an official developer guide.
