Asha Sharma is the CEO of XBOX, the name Microsoft has used for the business formerly called Microsoft Gaming since April 23, 2026. What did Sharma do before Xbox?
Microsoft said Sharma had been at the company for two years when it announced her appointment, after serving as Instacart’s chief operating officer and as a vice president at Meta. What does Sharma mean by “Return to Xbox”?
In a Windows Central interview published February 24, 2026, Sharma described “Return to Xbox” as a cultural commitment to the company’s founding spirit: surprise, experimentation and trying things other companies were unwilling to attempt. She said the approach should begin with fans and players, and that her commitment starts with console and hardware.
She also spoke about reducing divisions among devices and helping developers build once for different hardware experiences. These were her stated intentions early in her tenure, not evidence that the changes have already happened or guarantees of future results.

In the same interview, Sharma said her first priority was to understand what worked and protect it: “My first job is simple: understand what makes this work and protect it.”

In a separate Windows Central interview, Sharma framed platform leadership as a matter of product quality and decision-making.
