Pokémon Scarlet and Violet do not offer skirts as a separate garment. The protagonist’s outfit is built around a school uniform, with four seasonal versions and accessories layered on top, and no official source reviewed explains why skirts were left out. The answer below separates what the game confirms from what players have inferred.
What the game actually offers
The player’s clothing is a school uniform that comes in four seasonal presets. Pokémon’s official feature page for the games describes the academy’s four uniform types, including lighter short-sleeved and shorts styles and warmer blazer styles, and says boutiques sell a variety of items to wear with the uniform.
Pokémon Support’s guide to changing the protagonist’s appearance adds the practical rules:
- Seasons: Players can switch among spring, summer, autumn, and winter uniforms at any time.
- Accessories: Headwear, footwear, and bags can be bought in town to expand the look.
- In-field access: Pressing left on the directional pad opens the clothing settings while exploring.
Accessories change how the uniform looks. They do not replace the uniform itself, and the official descriptions do not list a skirt among the garments a player can wear.

How the four uniform presets differ
The official feature page groups the uniforms by weight and sleeve style rather than assigning a specific garment to each season. A Nintendo Life guide by Kate Gray, published December 14, 2023, gives the most concrete description of the leg coverage in each season. It is a secondary guide, not an official specification, so the table below marks where each detail comes from.
| Season | Leg coverage (Nintendo Life guide, December 14, 2023) | Official feature page description |
|---|---|---|
| Spring | Trousers | Grouped with the lighter styles or warmer blazer styles; season not assigned individually |
| Summer | Shorts | Grouped with the lighter short-sleeved and shorts styles; season not assigned individually |
| Autumn | Knee-length shorts | Season not assigned individually |
| Winter | Trousers | Grouped with the warmer blazer styles; season not assigned individually |
No skirt appears in any of the four presets described across these sources.

Why the design looks the way it does
Official materials frame the player as a student on an adventure and present the clothing as school-uniform variants plus accessories. That framing explains why the uniform is the base layer. It does not establish the developers’ reason for excluding skirts.
No official statement addressing that specific design decision was found in the sources reviewed. Explanations about cultural, technical, age-rating, or political reasons are not supported by any official source, so they should not be treated as the reason. The honest answer is that the developers have not, in the material reviewed, explained the choice.

What the downloadable content adds
Nintendo’s New Uniform Set listing, dated February 27, 2023, describes a downloadable set containing spring, summer, autumn, and winter uniforms. The included uniforms differ between Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet. The listing does not advertise standalone skirts, so the DLC expands the uniform presets rather than adding a new garment type.
Nintendo’s separate official announcement also says the school name, emblem, uniforms, and other details differ by game version. Players comparing outfits across the two games should check which version they are playing, because the uniforms are not identical.

Checking your options in the game
- Start the game and head into the field, outside of any battle or dialogue.
- Press left on the directional pad to open the clothing settings.
- Choose one of the spring, summer, autumn, or winter uniforms.
- To change accessories, visit a shop in town and buy headwear, footwear, or bags, then equip them from the same settings.
If your uniform options do not match the list above, check that the DLC is installed and that you are playing the version you expect. The guides reviewed were published in 2023 and may not reflect later game updates.
Players wanting a different silhouette have two realistic paths: mix the four uniform presets with the accessories available, or accept that the game’s outfit system is built around the uniform.
