If CHUXIE crashes on PC, start by noting when it happens and any exact error text. For the developer’s specific LowLevelFatalError in D3D12Util.cpp, update the graphics driver and Windows first, then try a different display mode. For crashes without that message, use the broader checks below; no single cause is established for every crash.
Start with the crash symptom
Write down whether CHUXIE closes at startup, when you select New Game, or during play. If an error appears, preserve its exact wording. The developer’s pinned CHUXIE FAQ, posted August 30, 2024 and edited September 29, 2024, identifies a particular LowLevelFatalError in D3D12Util.cpp and points to an outdated graphics driver or an old system version as possible causes. That advice applies to the named error; it does not establish a universal cause for other crashes.
8 fixes to try when CHUXIE crashes
1. Match the fix to the error
If the message includes LowLevelFatalError and D3D12Util.cpp, prioritize the driver, Windows-update, and display-mode checks below. If there is no error text, continue through the general troubleshooting steps rather than assuming the D3D12 issue is responsible.
2. Update the graphics driver
Identify your GPU and driver version with Windows’ DirectX Diagnostic Tool: press Win+R, enter dxdiag, and check the Display tab. Then check for a driver through the official channel for your hardware—NVIDIA, AMD, Intel, or your PC maker. The developer specifically recommends a graphics-driver update for the named error. Steam also provides general driver-update guidance.

3. Install available Windows updates
Check Settings > Windows Update and install available updates, then restart. The developer lists an outdated system version as another possible factor for the named error, and Steam’s general launch troubleshooting also recommends updating Windows.
4. Change the display mode
Try fullscreen windowed mode; if CHUXIE is already using it, try fullscreen instead. The developer suggests these alternatives in its FAQ. The wording of display options can vary with the game’s current settings menu.

5. Verify the game files in Steam
- Open Steam Library and right-click CHUXIE.
- Select Properties > Installed Files.
- Choose Verify integrity of game files and let Steam finish checking.
Steam says verification can take several minutes. Some local configuration files may not validate; Steam says those can be ignored. See Steam’s file-verification instructions.
6. Check 64-bit support and the published requirements
CHUXIE supports 64-bit systems only. Its Steam technical-issue page lists Windows 10 and a 64-bit processor and operating system as minimum requirements. It lists 8 GB RAM, an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 or AMD Radeon RX 580, DirectX 11, and an SSD at minimum. Recommended specifications are Windows 10 or 11, 16 GB RAM, an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 or AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT, and DirectX 12. These are published requirements, not proof that a particular component caused a crash. Compare your PC with the CHUXIE requirements on Steam.

7. Restart and temporarily close non-essential software
Restart the PC and Steam, then launch CHUXIE again. If it still fails, close non-essential background programs and retry. Steam recommends these checks because launch problems can have different causes across hardware and software configurations. Treat the result as a way to narrow down a possible conflict; no particular overlay or background app is established as a CHUXIE-specific cause. 8. If only New Game fails, run the executable as administrator
For the separate symptom “Unable to open a new game,” the developer recommends running the game executable as administrator. In Steam, use Library > CHUXIE > Properties > Installed Files > Browse to open the installation folder. Find the game executable, right-click it, and choose Run as administrator. This is a targeted suggestion for the New Game issue, not a general guarantee against crashes.

If CHUXIE still crashes
Contact the official support address listed on Steam: [email protected]. Include the exact error text, when the crash occurs, your Windows version, CPU, GPU, RAM, and graphics-driver version. Those details help distinguish a startup failure, a New Game problem, a requirements mismatch, and the specific D3D12 error.
