Mega Dragonite is an official Pokémon Legends: Z-A design; Mega Starmie was the subject of pre-release leak coverage in September 2025 and is now discussed in post-launch coverage as an in-game form. The designs prompt very different reactions: Dragonite gains a gentler, more elaborate look, while Starmie’s long, almost human-like legs have startled and amused fans.
What Mega Dragonite looks like
Pokémon’s official Mega Dragonite profile lists the form as Dragon/Flying, 2.2 m tall and 290 kg. Its changes include wings on its head that function as feelers and a pearl on its tail. The official description also says Mega Dragonite can fly faster and farther after Mega Evolution, and that its kindhearted nature is amplified.
That is the basis for the headline’s comparison: Mega Dragonite has a notably changed silhouette and added details, but the official profile frames those changes around flight and its character. The profile is a source for the design and species specifications, not evidence of how all players feel about it.
What the Mega Starmie leak coverage said
On September 2, 2025, VICE reported that images purporting to show Mega Starmie had appeared online. At the time of that report, the form had not been officially confirmed, so the article’s use of “leak” belongs to that pre-release moment—not to its present status.

Later, post-launch coverage treated Mega Starmie as an in-game design. AUTOMATON WEST reported that its long, nearly human-like legs caught attention and inspired fan creations in Japan. That explains the startled, joking tone behind headlines about fans being “scared”: the coverage documents astonishment and playful engagement, not literal fear or a measured consensus among Pokémon fans.
How the two designs compare

Where to see the designs
Both are associated with Pokémon Legends: Z-A. The Pokémon Company Asia’s press announcement introduced Mega Dragonite while announcing a physical version of the game. That establishes the physical edition’s announcement, not its current stock or listing details.
