Called the Ningtendo PXBOX 5, it is a hardware consolidation project—not an emulator or a retail product. You can switch between the three systems, but only one can run a game at a time; the PS5 and Xbox are digital-only in this build.
How the Ningtendo PXBOX 5 works
The project combines the original boards from three consoles in one custom case. Rather than translate games through emulation, it houses the hardware needed to run each platform. A top-mounted button cycles between systems, and case lighting shows which one is selected. An Arduino-based controller manages system selection and display routing, according to TechSpot.
It is a shared enclosure, not three consoles playing at once. The power and cooling setup is designed around one active game system at a time. Tom’s Hardware reports that the active game should be closed before switching platforms.
What went into the custom build
A triangular case and shared cooling
XNZ took design inspiration from Apple’s 2013 Mac Pro, removing the consoles’ original cooling and power components while retaining their boards. The custom arrangement draws air from below toward a central triangular heatsink, with a Phanteks T30 120mm fan in the airflow setup. Copper plates sit between the heatsink block and the PS5 and Xbox boards to spread heat.

The heatsink was made with a lost-wax casting process: a 3D-printed plastic form was coated in heat-resistant material, heated until the plastic burned away, then filled with molten metal. Tom’s Hardware reports that after XNZ changed the thermal interface material to standard thermal paste, the PS5 temperature peaked at 60 degrees Celsius in a test of this particular build. That result is not a general performance guarantee or a tested recipe for other console modifications.
Shared power and system selection
The build uses a reported 250W GaN power supply. Tom’s Hardware says the design relies on the consoles drawing little power in standby and on games not running on multiple systems simultaneously. The 250W figure describes this project’s power-supply rating; it is not evidence that the same supply is suitable for other console combinations.

A custom Switch 2 dock adaptation
The Switch 2’s dock board was moved into a custom 3D-printed housing that fits the enclosure while preserving the docking connection. This is a physical adaptation of the dock, not a conversion of the Switch 2 into a different platform.
What the combined console cannot do
- Run multiple systems at once: The design switches between platforms; it does not support concurrent gameplay.
- Play PS5 or Xbox discs: There was no room for those consoles’ disc drives in the enclosure, so both are digital-only in this build.
- Serve as a ready-made product: The reports describe a bespoke proof of concept, not a console available for purchase.
Those limits matter when comparing the build with keeping three standard consoles. It reduces the need to move between separate boxes, but gives up disc-drive use on two platforms and does not establish how the custom hardware behaves over long-term use, how easy it is to repair, or what it would cost to reproduce. The reporting also does not establish whether the Switch 2 retains handheld use in this configuration.

Why build it?
The project tackles a familiar inconvenience: games tied to separate platforms usually require separate hardware. XNZ’s answer is to consolidate the boards, power arrangement, cooling, and display selection in one enclosure. That makes the PXBOX 5 an inventive engineering demonstration, but its custom construction and one-at-a-time operation distinguish it from a universal console a player can simply buy and use.
Tom’s Hardware and Interesting Engineering report on the build; Interesting Engineering describes it as a proof of concept and says XNZ unveiled it in a November 2025 video.
