Critics generally liked Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution, especially its extensive card pool and story-driven content. The Metacritic Switch and Xbox One pages each showed a 79 Metascore when accessed in 2026, but they represent different review samples. The captured PC page listed three reviews without displaying an aggregate score.
What did critics think of Link Evolution?
The clearest pattern across the available reviews is that the game’s breadth appealed to Yu-Gi-Oh! fans, while its complexity and some aspects of multiplayer drew reservations. Scores and review counts vary by platform, so they are best read as separate snapshots rather than one score for every version.
| Platform | Metacritic critic score | Reviews shown | What the captured page establishes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nintendo Switch | 79, “Generally Favorable” | 13: nine positive, four mixed, none negative | Aggregate and review breakdown shown on the page accessed in 2026. |
| Xbox One | 79 | Four: all positive | Aggregate and review breakdown shown on the page accessed in 2026. |
| PC | No aggregate displayed | Three, with listed scores of 80, 78, and 70 | The captured page text does not establish a PC Metascore. |
Metascores summarize the critic reviews counted on each platform page; they do not establish how the game performs today or whether its online services are active or well populated.
What did reviewers praise or criticize?
Campaigns, challenges, and card collection
Review excerpts highlighted the volume of campaigns, challenges, and cards. NintendoWorldReport’s excerpt called it “the best Yu-Gi-Oh video game I have played in years.” On PC, a COGconnected excerpt praised the amount of content while noting “there are some elements and annoyances that hold the experience back.”

Learning the modern card game
The game was described as a possible entry point for newcomers, but not necessarily an effortless one. Vooks wrote: “It’s undeniably a more complicated card game than it once was and although that can be a little intimidating at first, persevere and you’ll find one of the most rewarding collectable card games around.” That is one critic’s assessment, not a guarantee that every new player will find the rules easy to learn.
Multiplayer caveats
GamingTrend’s Switch review excerpt said, “Multiplayer is scarce and laggy, so I’d steer clear.” This is an individual review judgment from 2019, not a measurement of current matchmaking, server conditions, or player population.

How much content does the game include?
Konami describes the game as covering stories from the original animated series through VRAINS, with new story content and characters. Its listed features include a beginner tutorial, Link Monsters, Reverse Duels, local and online play, and Battle Pack sealed and draft modes.
- Card count: Konami’s current product page advertises more than 10,000 cards. Its August 2019 Switch launch announcement instead said more than 9,000 cards at launch. These are publisher claims from different page and release contexts, not interchangeable figures for a single version snapshot.
- Playtime: Konami advertises more than 80 hours of gameplay; this is a publisher estimate, not an independently measured completion time.
Which platforms have a physical copy?
Konami lists Nintendo Switch as available physically and digitally. PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam are listed as digital-only editions on its product page. Konami gives August 20, 2019 as the launch date; its announcement on that date confirms the Switch release.

The Switch physical edition is described by Konami as including three Official Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG cards. The launch announcement names them as Progleo, Micro Coder, and Cynet Codec. That confirms the edition and bonus as described at launch, but not current stock, regional packaging, or the contents of any present-day resale listing.
