The message “You’re restricted from using communication features” on PS5 usually means the account you are using has a communication restriction applied to it. In most cases that is a family control on a child account, which a parent or guardian can change. A less common cause is a PlayStation communication suspension on the account, which a parent cannot lift from Family Management. The message alone does not tell you which one applies, so start by identifying the account type.
What the message means
The on-screen wording reported by WWE 2K Support reads: “You’re restricted from using communication features. If your parent or guardian set this restriction, you can send them a request to let you use communication features just for this game.” That second sentence points to a family control. It does not prove that a family control is the cause in every case, but it does show that the prompt is designed for child accounts whose parents have set limits.
Communication features here mean text messages, voice chat, and related social interaction with other players. Depending on the restriction, they can also cover sharing or viewing user-generated content and linking certain third-party services or apps.
Identify which kind of restriction you have
There are two materially different account-level explanations. They differ in who can change the restriction, where you check it, and how widely it applies.

PlayStation’s support documentation, accessed October 8, 2026, separates account, communication, and console suspensions from the child-account parental-control path. Do not assume a suspension from the error text alone.
Path 1: The account is a child account
If the PS5 is signed in with a child account, the restriction most likely comes from the family settings. Only the family manager or an appointed parent or guardian can change it.

Check the family settings
- As the parent or guardian, sign in to the console with an adult account that manages the family.
- Go to Settings > Family and Parental Controls > Family Management.
- Select the child’s account and open the Communication and User-Generated Content settings.
- Look for the Restrict option. PlayStation states that selecting Communication and User-Generated Content > Restrict disables sending text messages and voice chatting with other players.
Pre-written in-game messages remain allowed under that restriction, so a child may still send them even when text and voice are blocked.
Request a game-specific exception
The child can ask for an exception for communication features in a particular game instead of lifting the restriction across the account. The request goes to the family manager or appointed parent or guardian, who can review it through the PlayStation Family app or Family Management online. An approved exception applies to the game the child requested.

How do I allow communication features for this game?
For a child account, the route is the in-game request described above: use the prompt on screen to send the request, then have the parent or guardian approve it in the PlayStation Family app or Family Management online. For a single game, this is the narrowest change available, and it does not require changing the account’s overall settings.
If the account is an adult account and the prompt still appears, do not treat it as a family request. Move to the suspension check below.

Path 2: Troubleshooting in WWE 2K
WWE 2K Support lists this message in its own article, published June 25, 2025 and updated July 8, 2026. Its PS4 and PS5 section says the problem may come from an account with children’s permissions being signed in, even when the account you are using can access all content. For PS5, it recommends signing out of other PSN IDs until only the intended adult account remains signed in.

- Press the PS button on the controller.
- Go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Log Out.
- Repeat for each other PSN ID until only the intended adult account remains signed in.
- Launch WWE 2K again and check whether the message still appears.
If the message clears, the cause was the other signed-in account. If it does not, the issue is probably a family control or a suspension, and the steps above will not resolve it.
Path 3: A communication suspension
PlayStation’s “Suspensions on PlayStation” documentation, accessed October 8, 2026, describes a communication suspension as one that blocks access to social features, such as interacting with other players and playing online. Account status is checked through My Support.
- Sign in to My Support and check the status of the account you are using.
- If a communication suspension or another account-side restriction is listed, follow the notice and contact PlayStation Support using the options in My Support.
- Do not try to bypass the suspension by changing hardware, network setup, or accessories. None of these change account-level enforcement.
What will not remove the restriction
No headset, controller, console accessory, router, or repair tool is a supported way to remove an account-level communication restriction. Changing your internet connection or replacing a PS5 does not alter family controls or reverse a suspension. Attempts to get around family controls, such as signing in with a different account to avoid the restriction, are also not a supported fix and can cause the same message to return.

- The signed-in account is a child account: ask the parent or guardian to review Communication and User-Generated Content settings, or submit a game-specific exception request.
- The error appears in WWE 2K and other PSN IDs are signed in: try the WWE 2K sign-out steps and test the game again.

No published figure exists that shows how often each cause occurs, so this guide is based on the official documentation and the game-specific guidance above rather than on frequency.
