What was reported about the leak?
On September 13, 2024, Nintendo Life reported finding screenshots and footage that Nintendo had not officially released. The article also described reports of people accessing the game early and reproduced a September 12 post by Nintendo Prime asserting that the ROM was real. That post was a social-media claim, not confirmation from Nintendo.

Nintendo Life updated its report on September 16. It said the initial reports of emulator access “may have been premature,” pointed to a title-screen video that had been removed following a Nintendo copyright claim, and said the leak did not appear as severe as first suspected. The claim that the full game had leaked should therefore be understood as the framing of the original report—not proof that a complete game was widely playable.
What is confirmed—and what is not
- Confirmed by the reporting: Nintendo Life described unofficial screenshots and footage circulating before launch, including a title-screen video that was later removed following a copyright claim.
- Qualified by the outlet: Its September 16 update said emulator-access reports might have been premature.
- Not established: The reviewed reporting does not verify broad access to a complete playable game, how many people saw or played leaked material, or whether any particular files or videos are available now.
Nintendo announced that Echoes of Wisdom would launch for Nintendo Switch on September 26, 2024. In its official description, Zelda uses the Tri Rod to create echoes—imitations of things found in the environment—and recreate them to solve puzzles and defeat enemies. That is the game’s premise, not evidence about the leak.

Official previews were separate from the leak reports
Nintendo published authorized gameplay material before launch. Its August 30, 2024, Nintendo of America article explained the echo mechanic and Zelda’s swordfighter form. A September 2 announcement for an official trailer described the Still World, dungeons, and swordfighter form. These Nintendo previews should not be confused with the unofficial material Nintendo Life reported.

Nintendo Life’s September 2024 advice was to mute keywords and be careful about what appears in online feeds. If you want to avoid story or gameplay spoilers, mute title-related terms on the platforms you use and skip unmarked gameplay posts. The historical report does not establish that specific leaked material can still be found today.
