Nintendo has officially announced a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Nintendo Switch 2, with a launch date of 5 November 2026. The earlier report from Nate the Hate is now background to a confirmed release—not the basis for treating the game as a rumor.
Is the Ocarina of Time remake real?
Yes. Nintendo announced the Switch 2 remake in June 2026, then confirmed its release date and additional details in a 9 September anniversary announcement. Nintendo describes the game as exclusive to Switch 2.
The game is a remake of the 1998 The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Nintendo’s June announcement is in its Nintendo Direct recap; its September announcement is published by Nintendo Malaysia.
When does it come out?
Nintendo set the launch for 5 November 2026. The date was announced on 9 September 2026. The announcement identifies a physical release as well as the game itself, but regional retail listings and stock may vary.

What has Nintendo confirmed about the remake?
Nintendo has described several changes to the presentation and controls compared with the original:
- Overhauled visuals.
- Fully voiced cutscenes and expanded character dialogue.
- Symphonic orchestral music.
- Reworked camera and movement controls.
Nintendo has not established in the cited announcements a detailed comparison of every change against the 1998 game, so these confirmed features should not be taken as a complete list of remake differences.
What editions and Zelda products are announced?
The first physical print run will have special anniversary packaging. Nintendo also announced a Zelda-themed Switch 2 console, a Pro Controller, and a carrying case with screen protector. The announcement does not make that themed console a requirement: the game is announced for Switch 2 generally.
Young Link and Young Zelda amiibo are planned for 2027, after the game’s launch. Nintendo says the figures can unlock special masks in the game; they are not launch-day accessories.

Check Nintendo’s regional store and local retailers for current listings, format options, and availability. If you want the anniversary packaging, verify that a listing is for the first physical print run; the announcement does not establish that all later physical copies will include it. Compare physical and digital options based on the listings available in your region.

Before Nintendo’s announcement, Nate the Hate reported that one of Nintendo’s major fall games would be an Ocarina of Time remake for Switch 2 in 2026. GameSpot’s 27 March 2026 account said VGC had separately backed up the claim. That report is useful chronology, but Nintendo’s later announcements are what establish the game, platform, and date. GameSpot’s report covered the earlier claim.
