Torn Banner Studios’ official guidance for failed friend adds and failed party joins is to re-add the friend or restart the game. That is the documented first step, not a guaranteed fix. The cross-platform party system was launched as a beta in May 2023, and the developer’s later fixes and known-issue lists are dated, so no single cause applies to every player.
How the cross-platform party system is supposed to work
Torn Banner Studios announced the Raiding Party update on 2 May 2023, introducing cross-platform parties as a beta. The announcement described the intended workflow:
“Each player has a unique friend code that can be generated. Once added, players can invite friends and create parties in the main menu, regardless of their platform.”
The same announcement warned that bugs could be expected while the feature was in beta. Before you troubleshoot, check that the setup matches what the beta requires:

- Each player must generate a friend code in the game. Friends are added through these codes, not through a platform’s own friend list.
- Once a friend has been added this way, invites and party creation happen from the main menu.
- Friends on different platforms can use this route. The announcement does not describe any extra setting that must be changed on each platform.
Identify which step is failing
The official sources document distinct failures, so the first job is to name the one you are seeing. Each symptom below points to a different stage of the flow.

Steps to take, in order
- Note whether the affected friends are on the same platform or on different platforms. Cross-platform failures are the ones the beta feature is most likely to affect.
- Attempt to re-add the friend. This is the step Torn Banner Studios documented for failed friend adds and failed party joins.
- Restart the game on each affected machine or console, then retry the friend add, invite, or party join.
- If the failure is one of the known issues in the table above, note the platform combination and the exact action that failed. Those details are what support will ask for.
- If the problem continues after these steps, check the official knowledge base, then open a ticket through Chivalry 2 Support (see the support section below).
The 2022 Server Browser workaround
A developer FAQ dated 15 June 2022 said that, at the time, the Server Browser was the best way for friends on different platforms to get into a match together. The same FAQ noted that Steam party invites occasionally did not work as intended.

This is historical context. It predates the cross-platform party beta, so it does not describe the friend-code workflow above. Crossplay and cross-platform parties are also different features. The 2022 FAQ covered joining a shared server. The 2023 beta added in-game cross-platform friends and parties. Do not assume the 2022 workaround is a current fix for party invites.
Known defects documented in the November 2023 update
Torn Banner Studios’ update dated 7 November 2023 (the Reclamation update) listed several crossparty fixes, including:
- Party formation on PS4 and PS5.
- Invite and session handling on Xbox.
- Messaging when party creation fails.
- Friend-list issues.
The same update’s known-issues list still included two problems: occasional failure when adding friends, and an in-game UI that might not list every party member. These are dated known issues from a November 2023 release. The official sources reviewed do not confirm whether they are still present in October 2026, so treat them as a reason to report the problem, not as a confirmed current state.

When to contact Chivalry 2 Support
Chivalry 2 Support, on a page dated 27 June 2024, says its staff can help with technical troubleshooting and matchmaking questions. The page recommends checking the knowledge base first and accepts tickets for problems that continue.
When you open a ticket, include the platform of each player, the exact action that failed (friend add, invite, party join, or party list), whether the friends were on the same platform, and the approximate time it happened. The known-issue list above is dated, so a current ticket is the only way to confirm whether your failure is a known defect.

Fixes the official sources do not support
The official party material does not document firewall changes, networking hardware, reinstalling the game, or changes to console privacy settings as fixes for party or invite failures. Those steps are not established remedies for this issue, so they should not be treated as the answer. The official sources also do not provide a current compatibility matrix, a platform-by-platform defect list, or any success rate for party invites.

Quoted developer guidance
Torn Banner Studios’ May 2023 announcement on the Raiding Party update gave this troubleshooting instruction:
“If you are having issues with adding a friend or joining a friend’s party, please attempt re-adding your friend or restarting your game.”
Quote the announcement with its beta context intact. It describes cross-platform parties as a beta feature.
