To complete Cabin Fever in Avowed, get Dehengen’s Key from Dehengen at Claviger’s Landing in Dawnshore, travel northwest into the Fractured Shore to her cabin, get inside by the front door, a breached wall, or a rear opening, examine the wall painting and the journal page, and then report back to Dehengen. The guides we checked agree on that route. They differ on what the reward depends on, which is covered below.
The walkthrough sources were last updated in early 2025: Game8 on February 14, 2025 and Patch Crazy on February 18, 2025. Avowed patches can change quest text, markers, or dialogue, so if the game shows something different, follow the in-game prompt.
Start the quest at Claviger’s Landing
Cabin Fever begins in Dawnshore with Dehengen, who is found at Claviger’s Landing. She asks for help reclaiming her home from the Xaurips. Game8’s walkthrough says she is near a pillar and is asking another person for help, and she hands over Dehengen’s Key. You will need that key for the front door, so do not skip this step.
Reach the cabin in the Fractured Shore
Her cabin is northwest of Claviger’s Landing, on the western side of Dawnshore in the Fractured Shore. Neoseeker’s route goes west through the palisade, past a Xaurip camp, and the cabin sits on the largest of a group of rocky pillars connected by bridges. Follow the quest marker for the final approach.

Choose an entrance and clear the Xaurips
Expect hostile Xaurips outside the cabin and two more inside. Game8 and Neoseeker both list three ways in. The sources describe the options below; compare them by what you are carrying.
| Entrance | What you need | What the guides describe |
|---|---|---|
| Front door | Dehengen’s Key | The door opens with the key from the quest’s first step. |
| Cracked wall | An explosive | Game8 describes breaching the cracked wall with an explosive. |
| Rear opening | Clearing the way | Game8 says the rear opening is blocked by destructible boxes. Neither guide specifies a method for clearing them. |
If you have the key, the front door is the simplest route. The wall and rear entrance are useful if you no longer have the key or prefer to approach from another side.

Investigate the painting and the journal
Once inside, examine the wall painting and read the journal page in the back room. Neoseeker also notes a treasure chest in the cabin, so search the room before you leave.
After you exit, a bridge to the south leads to a friendly Xaurip connected to the journal. Neoseeker says it is possible to leave this creature unharmed. The quest does not require you to attack every Xaurip you meet in this area, so you can choose which encounters to fight.

Return to Dehengen
Go back to Dehengen and report what you found. Ask her about either the painting or the journal. According to Game8, she explains that she believes she has only half a soul and that the other half is in a Xaurip. That is the emotional center of the quest. The quest ends after that conversation.

Game8 and Neoseeker both list the Vindictive Band as the reward. Game8 describes it as an accessory that makes critical hits deal poison damage.

Patch Crazy reports something different. It says the outcome depends on a dialogue choice about whether Dehengen pursues a relationship with the Xaurip soul twin. The other two guides describe a standard completion reward and do not mention that branch. None of the sources documents the exact line that changes the result, so we cannot say which response grants the band and which does not.
If you want to be sure of the reward, read every dialogue option when you return to Dehengen and check what your inventory shows after the conversation ends. If the band does not appear, reload a save from before the final conversation and try different responses.
