ComicBook.com reported it on September 30, 2021 under the headline “Injustice 3 Roster Potentially Leaks Online,” and said the leaker predicted a May 2022 release and a December reveal. A lineup that combines franchise staples with requested deep cuts and crossovers reads as plausible, and that is the main reason such lists spread. Plausibility is not evidence. The reporting does not establish who the alleged leaker was or whether that person had a track record, and it does not validate the names.

- May 2022: The claimed release month passes. No Injustice 3 launch matching the rumor appeared.
- May 19, 2022: GoNintendo reports a comment from Ed Boon about fan requests for future Injustice and Mortal Kombat games. The comment did not describe any project.
What Ed Boon said
GoNintendo reported that Boon said, “at the moment we can’t work on every game we’d like to make all at the same time.” According to the outlet, he was responding to requests for future Mortal Kombat and Injustice games. This is a secondary report of a comment, not an official transcript. Even taken at face value, the remark acknowledges demand and competing priorities. It does not confirm Injustice 3, its roster, or its DLC.

On the first three points, this rumor offers no verifiable support, and on the fourth it failed.

A 2026 explainer from Position Is Everything addresses the same exact title and reaches the same skeptical conclusion. It is a secondary account rather than official confirmation, but it is consistent with the reporting above. If you are looking for an existing game in the series, Injustice 2 is the released entry. It is not the rumored sequel.
In short, the May 2022 Injustice 3 lineup and DLC were never verified, and the release they predicted did not happen.
