Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds can be worth buying if you want replayable arcade racing against computer opponents, course changes mid-race, vehicle tuning, and Time Trials. It is not established as a story-campaign game: the confirmed solo offering is built around races and improving your driving. If you want a narrative or a long sequence of varied solo modes, wait for a sale—or try the demo first.
What can you do in single-player?
Race Grand Prix events against computer opponents
SEGA describes Grand Prix as a single-player mode with seven competitions against COM opponents. That gives solo players a defined race structure, but the official description does not establish a story campaign or narrative progression. If by “single-player” you mean offline races, the answer is yes; if you mean a story-led adventure, that is not documented by the sources cited here.
Practice and improve in Time Trial
Time Trial gives you a separate reason to return beyond racing against a field: focus on driving a course and improving your time. SEGA’s March 19, 2026 demo notice confirms that Time Trial is playable in the demo as well as Grand Prix.
How much variety is there between races?
Travel Rings alter the route during a race
SEGA’s Travel Ring mechanic can send racers into a CrossWorld after the first lap. The second lap takes place on the changed course, before the final lap returns to the original track with other course aspects changed. Nintendo of America’s U.S. listing, accessed October 7, 2026, lists 24 tracks and 15 CrossWorlds. These official counts and the route changes offer variety within repeatable races, rather than evidence of a campaign structure.

Vehicles and gadgets offer room to experiment
Nintendo’s U.S. listing gives counts of 45 original vehicles and 70 gadgets. SEGA describes gadgets as abilities that affect playstyle, so customization can give repeated races another layer: try different combinations and find a setup that suits you. It may take experimentation to make sense of the options. In PC Gamer’s January 16, 2026 review, Mollie Taylor said the gadget range felt overwhelming at first, then rewarding after she found combinations that fit her playstyle. That is one reviewer’s experience, not a guarantee that every player will feel the same way.
Who is likely to find it worth buying?
- Good fit: You enjoy arcade races as a repeatable skill loop—learning routes, trying builds, racing cups, and working on faster times.
- Less compelling: You want a story campaign, or need many distinct kinds of solo activity to justify buying at full price. The solo activities established here center on racing and time improvement.
- Worth trying first: You are unsure whether the racing or customization will click. The demo lets you test the solo modes before paying.
Try the demo before deciding
SEGA’s March 19, 2026 notice says the demo includes Grand Prix and Time Trial, four characters, eight courses (three main courses and five CrossWorlds), 15 machines (12 in the Nintendo Switch demo), and 20 gadgets. Demo save data can carry into the full game, but Time Trial results do not upload to the full game’s leaderboard. The demo excludes online and local multiplayer, so it can help you judge the solo racing feel but not the social modes.

How should you judge the price?
There is no universal current price established by the cited sources; storefront pricing and offers vary by platform and territory, so check your local listing. PC Gamer’s January 16, 2026 review discussed a $70 asking price in its review context and argued that value depends on priorities. Reviewer Mollie Taylor wrote: “Want a fun, Easter egg-laden Sonic racing game that’s ridiculously chaotic and packed with ways to fine-tune things to perfectly fit your playstyle? Those 70 dollars might be worth it.” Treat that as her dated opinion, not a current price quote or a consensus view. If you mainly want solo racing and the demo convinces you, the game may suit you; if you are paying for a campaign or have doubts about full-price value, waiting for a sale is the safer call.
What about multiplayer?
This is a solo-focused buying decision, but platform listings also describe social options. Nintendo’s U.S. listing gives one-system play for one to four players, local wireless for two to eight, and online play for two to twelve; capacities vary by platform and mode. Race Park is described by Nintendo as a party mode and local split-screen option, but the cited listing does not establish its full solo feature set. PC Gamer’s review criticized online reliability and item balance; those are the reviewer’s reported experience and opinion, not proof that every player will have the same experience.

Platform and edition details to check
SEGA’s September 25, 2025 launch announcement lists PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, Steam, and Epic Games Store. It gives September 25, 2025 as the launch date for console platforms and September 26, 2025 for PC storefront releases. Nintendo of America’s U.S. listing shows Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 versions. Because availability and compatibility depend on the store and edition, confirm the live listing for your platform before buying.
