If your Switch displays error code 2124-4007 or 2124-4508 with the message “The use of online services on this console is currently restricted by Nintendo,” Nintendo says the console has been permanently banned from connecting to online services for a breach of its user agreements. The notice does not establish exactly which offline features remain available, whether your Nintendo Account is also restricted, or whether Nintendo will reverse the ban.
What do Switch ban error codes 2124-4007 and 2124-4508 mean?
Nintendo’s North American support article applies these codes to Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, Switch Lite, and Switch OLED. With the restriction message, they mean Nintendo has permanently banned that console from connecting online. Nintendo identifies fraudulent or unauthorized transactions and Community Guidelines violations as examples of user-agreement breaches, and says its examples are not exhaustive. This is an enforcement notice, not simply a report of a Wi-Fi or network outage. The specific codes and message are the important clues; other Switch connection errors should not automatically be treated as a ban.

Is the whole console banned, or only a game or service?
Nintendo documents a separate code, 2124-5114, for restrictions on online features of a particular game or service. Nintendo says that restriction may apply to a Nintendo Account or a console following a user-agreement breach. That differs in stated scope from the permanent console-wide online-connection ban associated with 2124-4007 and 2124-4508. Nintendo Support: Error Code: 2124-5114.

A console restriction does not by itself prove that the owner’s Nintendo Account is banned. The code descriptions distinguish the restrictions, but do not establish identical account consequences in every case.

Can you still play games offline?
Nintendo’s ban-code article does not specify which offline features continue to work. The official information cited here does not settle whether a particular banned console can play an installed digital game, use a game card, install updates, or connect to other consoles over local wireless. So it would be inaccurate to promise that the console remains fully usable offline—or to say that it is bricked.
Nintendo says Switch eShop purchases are associated with the Nintendo Account that made them, and that account can be used to access purchased games on supported consoles. That purchase-account information does not confirm that a banned console can redownload a game, that a specific digital title will run offline, or that another console will solve an account-level restriction. What can cause a Nintendo Switch console ban?
Nintendo’s examples include fraudulent or unauthorized transactions and violations of its Community Guidelines. They are examples, not a complete list. The code alone does not identify which action triggered an individual ban, so do not assume a particular purchase or modification was the cause unless Nintendo confirms it in that case.
Can Nintendo unban a Switch?
The cited official support information does not document a formal appeal process, promise reinstatement, or give a review timeline. Nintendo Australia directs affected owners to its Customer Service Team for assistance. Contact Nintendo through the support option for your region, provide the exact error code and message, and explain the console’s history. Nintendo Australia Support. Support can address the individual case, but the published material does not guarantee that the restriction will be reversed.

What should you do if you are buying a used Switch?
If the console shows one of the permanent-ban codes and the restriction message, treat its online services as restricted. Before buying, ask the seller to demonstrate that the console can access online services and check the return policy. These are sensible precautions, not guarantees of the console’s future status.
