First identify which Atari device you have. For the AtGames Atari Portable or Ultimate Portable Game Player, connect its top-mounted AV-out mini-jack to the TV’s AV inputs with a compatible cable that has one 3.5 mm plug and yellow and white RCA plugs, then select the matching AV input on the TV. Other Atari devices use different connections.
Connect an AtGames Atari Portable to a TV
AtGames’ Portable and Ultimate Portable Game Player FAQ specifies an AV-out mini-jack on top of the handheld and a 1-to-2 AV cable. Follow these steps:
- Confirm the product. Check the label or product name to make sure it is an AtGames Atari Portable or Ultimate Portable Game Player.
- Find the AV-out jack. It is on the top of the handheld.
- Connect the cable. Insert the cable’s 3.5 mm plug into the handheld’s AV-out jack. Connect the yellow and white RCA plugs to the matching AV jacks on the TV.
- Select the TV input. Turn on the TV and choose the AV input for those jacks, then power on the handheld.
Choose a cable carefully
Look for a 1-to-2 AV cable with one 3.5 mm connector and two RCA connectors, yellow and white. AtGames’ FAQ does not name a specific cable model or provide a pinout, so a cable with the right-looking plugs is not automatically confirmed as compatible. Check the listing for compatibility with your exact handheld and verify its wiring before buying.
If your TV has HDMI but no AV inputs
The AtGames FAQ does not specify an HDMI converter for the Atari Portable or Ultimate Portable Game Player. Do not assume a generic converter will work: verify that a proposed solution supports this handheld’s AV output and your TV before purchasing. AtGames does not provide a model-specific converter recommendation in the cited FAQ.

Check which Atari device you have
“Atari 2600 handheld” can refer to different products, and their TV connections are not interchangeable. Atari’s product pages distinguish the Gamestation Go, a separate handheld with HDMI output and an HDMI cable listed as included, from the Atari 2600+, a console with HDMI output. The original Atari 2600 home console has a separate TV-switchbox and coaxial RF connection described in its January 1983 field service manual. Identify the device before choosing a cable or connection method.
