Find classic horror games in the PS Plus Classics Catalog
On PS5, go to Games home > PlayStation Plus > Benefits > Classics Catalog. Browse the collection, open a game’s page, and select Download or Stream if that option is offered. PlayStation’s catalog instructions explain that the right membership plan is required for access; eligibility and availability can vary by game and region, so check the listing on your console.

PlayStation has identified Resident Evil: Director’s Cut as a PS1 classic, and its 2025 Halloween guide also features Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Siren among Premium Classics. These are examples, not a guarantee that every title is available to every subscriber in every region. Check the individual game page and your local catalog before subscribing.
Download or stream?
Choose a download when the game offers one and you want to play it locally. Streaming is another option where the title and membership support it. PlayStation’s streaming guidance sets a minimum broadband speed of 5 Mbps; streaming at 1080p requires a game that supports 1080p and a connection of at least 15 Mbps. See PlayStation’s streaming requirements and the game’s own listing for current availability.

Buy a supported digital reissue
Some older horror games have digital conversions for PS4 and PS5. For example, PlayStation lists Dino Crisis for both consoles, converted from its PlayStation release. The reissue adds features including up-rendering, rewind, quick save, and custom video filters. It is also listed as a standalone Store purchase in the US; the listing notes that PS5 cloud streaming requires Premium. Check your regional Store for the current edition and access options: Dino Crisis on PlayStation Store.
A reissue can preserve the original game’s identity while adding convenience features, but it is still a digital release—not support for an original disc. Availability, membership access, and streaming options differ by title and region.

Choose the right Resident Evil 2
“Resident Evil 2” can mean two substantially different PS5 options. Identify the edition before you download or buy it:
| Version | What it is | How to identify it |
|---|---|---|
| Original PlayStation conversion | The classic PlayStation game, made available as a PS4/PS5 digital release. | Look for the listing identified as the original PlayStation version; access may depend on the Classics Catalog and your membership or region. See the original-version Store listing. |
| Modern version | A newer PS4/PS5 release centered on the Raccoon City outbreak, rather than the original PlayStation game. | Look for the modern PS4/PS5 listing: Resident Evil 2 on PlayStation Store. |
If you want the original game, confirm that the listing says it is the classic PlayStation version. If you want a modern reimagining, choose the newer release. The same principle applies to other franchises: a remake or new version is not interchangeable with a classic conversion.

- Amazon Exclusive - 2 sided poster included in every game!
- Grace Ashcroft, an FBI intelligence analyst who is introverted and easily scared, representing a new type of character for the Resident Evil series. Grace will experience horror from the same perspective as the player as she learns to overcome her fears throughout the course of the story.
- For the first time ever in Resident Evil history, players will be able to freely switch between both first- and third-person perspectives throughout the game.
- An Anniversary to Remember: With March 2026 marking the Resident Evil series’ 30-year anniversary, Resident Evil Requiem marks its own milestone in the franchise.
- Pre-orders for Resident Evil Requiem are now open, with the bonus of Grace’s costume: Apocalypse. Please note that the picture weapon does not come with the costume, but it can be obtained in-game.
Why your old PlayStation discs won’t work
PS5 is backward compatible with the majority of PS4 games, but that does not extend disc playback to older generations. Original PS1, PS2, and PS3 game discs do not play from disc on PS5. PlayStation’s PS5 compatibility guidance covers supported games and formats. For a classic, look for an eligible catalog title or a supported PS4/PS5 digital release; for a newer take, look for a remake or modern version.
