In the U.S., Minecraft for Nintendo Switch 2 is announced for October 27, 2026, but the official sources reviewed do not confirm an active U.S. preorder listing, price, format options, or preorder bonus. Check the listing in your region before paying. If you already own Minecraft on Nintendo Switch, Mojang has announced a digital upgrade path, but its price and conditions have not been stated. South Korea has a separate confirmed physical preorder with an October 28 release date.

How to preorder in the U.S.
Before placing an order, confirm that the product listing explicitly identifies Minecraft for Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo’s U.S. product page found for this game is for the older Nintendo Switch software, not a confirmed Switch 2 preorder. Nintendo describes that older game’s behavior on Switch 2 as consistent with Nintendo Switch behavior, so the existing listing should not be mistaken for the new native release.
- Check the platform label and region on the seller’s product page.
- Confirm the price, format (digital or physical), release date, stock status, and any stated preorder bonus on that specific listing.
- If no Switch 2 listing appears, wait for a verified local listing rather than ordering the older Switch game on the assumption that it is the new release.
The official U.S. sources reviewed do not establish a Switch 2 preorder price, a complete choice of formats, or a preorder bonus. Those details should be taken from a current U.S. listing when one is available.

South Korea has a confirmed physical preorder
Nintendo Korea’s notice says physical preorders began September 30, 2026, with release scheduled for October 28. The named offline options include Daewon Shop locations, Popcorn D Play pickup reservations, and participating game stores; named online options include Nintendo Store and Korean shopping services. The notice warns that preorder availability and timing can vary by retailer, so check the seller’s current listing for stock and terms. These are Korean-market options, not U.S. buying advice.
Choose between the new game and the announced upgrade path
| Route | Who it is for | What is confirmed | What to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| Buy the Switch 2 release | Players who want the new Switch 2 game, whether or not they own the Switch version. | Mojang announced a native release optimized for Switch 2 hardware. A physical preorder is confirmed in South Korea. | Local listing, price, digital or physical format, stock, release date, and any bonus. |
| Use the existing-owner upgrade path | Players who already own Minecraft on Nintendo Switch. | Mojang announced that a digital upgrade path will be available for Nintendo Switch players. | Price, eligibility rules, timing, and any other conditions; the announcement says more details will follow. |
Mojang’s announcement says: “For those of you who already own Minecraft on Nintendo Switch™, a digital upgrade path will be available for Nintendo Switch players. More details to follow.” It does not specify the upgrade’s price or terms. Nintendo’s general guidance about how some Switch 2 Edition upgrade packs work does not establish that those mechanics apply to Minecraft.

What the Switch 2 version adds
Mojang describes this as a native game optimized for Switch 2, with Vibrant Visuals enabled as the default experience. Announced effects include enhanced lighting and shadows; Mojang’s earlier feature announcement also describes directional lighting and volumetric fog. This is a visual upgrade, not a guarantee that every activity will use the same effects: Nintendo and Mojang note exceptions, including split-screen and certain Marketplace worlds and content.

Nintendo’s general U.S. purchase policies can help explain timing, but they are not Minecraft-specific promises. For U.S. Nintendo eShop digital preorders, Nintendo says payment is taken seven days before release. For physical pre-purchases from Nintendo Store, Nintendo says payment is taken immediately and the order ships 1–3 business days after release. Check the individual listing and regional terms before ordering, especially if you need the game on release day.
