Blair Witch is worth playing if you want a story-driven, first-person horror game about searching a haunted forest for a missing child. The official Steam listing and the publisher’s purchase page both point to that kind of experience, not to a combat-focused action game. Below you will find the premise, how the game plays, the PC requirements Steam lists, and what player reviews show as of early October 2026.

Who the game suits

Blair Witch is a single-player psychological horror game from Bloober Team, released August 30, 2019. The official Steam description presents it as investigation and survival horror. Use the list below to judge fit before you buy:

  • Good fit: you enjoy narrative horror, slow investigation, and an environment that feels unsettling and changeable.
  • Check footage first: you expect a combat-heavy game. The listing says you respond to supernatural threats, but it does not describe how much combat the game contains.
  • Not established by official sources: game length, pacing, scare quality, puzzle depth, and technical polish. Judge these from owner reviews or gameplay video, not from the store description.

The story and setting

A boy has disappeared near Burkittsville, Maryland. Ellis, accompanied by his dog Bullet, goes into the Black Hills Forest to find him. The game is set years after the original Blair Witch film and adds a new story to that film’s mythology. Steam describes the forest as shifting and haunted, and says the story is shaped partly by how you respond to danger and how you treat Bullet.

Meristation’s September 2019 review adds that Ellis is a former police officer with a troubled past, and it describes the forest as changing and disorienting. That is the reviewer’s reading rather than a synopsis confirmed by the official listing.

How the game plays

Investigation tools and the forest

The official description centers on three tools: a camera, a cell phone, and a flashlight. You use them to investigate the disappearance while exploring a forest that shifts around you, and you respond to supernatural threats as they appear. Because the listing describes threat response as part of the core loop, the game is more than passive walking. How often those encounters happen, and how they are resolved, is not specified in the official text.

Bullet, the companion

Bullet can be petted, fed treats, or disciplined when he wanders off. Steam states that how you treat him directly affects the story, so these small choices are tied to the narrative rather than being cosmetic.

PC requirements

The table below shows the Windows PC specifications Steam currently lists for Blair Witch.

Windows version and Steam client support

The game’s own minimum OS field still says Windows 7, 64-bit. However, Steam’s listing also notes that its client supports Windows 10 and later as of January 1, 2024. If you are on Windows 7, the game may be listed as compatible while the Steam client you need to buy or launch it is not. Check your Windows version before you plan a purchase on Steam.

Can your PC run it?

  • Compare your hardware with both columns. The minimum column is the floor the listing sets. The recommended column is the higher configuration Steam gives for the game.
  • Confirm memory and storage. The listing calls for 4 GB RAM at minimum, 8 GB recommended, and 16 GB of free space in both tiers.
  • Confirm your Windows version and Steam client. Windows 10 or later is the safe baseline for the current Steam client.
  • Look for owner reports on similar hardware. Frame-rate and stability expectations are not stated by the listing, so hardware-matched owner reviews are the best available evidence.

Editions

The official purchase page says the Deluxe Edition includes The Art of Blair Witch and the original soundtrack. The page does not state whether those extras are physical or digital, or which platforms carry each edition, so check the store page for your platform before you buy.
