Blair Witch: a search shaped by your behavior
Blair Witch gives Ellis a canine companion, Bullet, and tracks the player’s actions and reactions. Bloober Team says those behaviors contribute to alternative endings; the game does not present this as a dialogue-choice wheel. Encounters also offer a tactical choice: use the flashlight beam against forest creatures, or turn it off and use the camcorder’s night vision to try to sneak past them. That makes the game a better match if you like exploration and want your decisions to register beyond the immediate encounter.

If the investigation and the search for Lynn are what draw you in, the premise itself makes the case for choosing Outlast 2. The cited official descriptions establish its story, genre, and single-player format; they do not establish a detailed comparison of its moment-to-moment mechanics with Blair Witch.
Which game should you choose?
- Pick Blair Witch for the Black Hills Forest, Ellis and Bullet, exploration, behavior-linked alternative endings, and the option to use light or attempt stealth in encounters.
- Pick Outlast 2 for Blake’s investigation and search for Lynn in the Arizona desert, or if that setup is more compelling than a forest search.
- If you are deciding by scariness, treat that as a personal preference, not a settled ranking. The available sources provide no comparative scare measurement, and individual responses vary.
