Play the story in this order: FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE → FF7R EPISODE INTERmission → FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH → FINAL FANTASY VII REVELATION. INTERmission is a Yuffie-focused episode between the first game and Rebirth, not a fourth main trilogy entry. Save rules depend on which games and versions you mean: Remake can transfer from PS4 to PS5, while Rebirth and Revelation use eligible earlier saves for specified bonuses rather than carrying over your full campaign progress.
What order should you play the Final Fantasy VII Remake games?
- FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE — begin with the first game’s main story.
- FF7R EPISODE INTERmission — play the Yuffie episode after Remake and before Rebirth.
- FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH — the second main game in the trilogy.
- FINAL FANTASY VII REVELATION — Square Enix’s official store identifies it as the final chapter and lists a June 3, 2026 release date. See the official store page for its current product details.
Square Enix producer Yoshinori Kitase called Rebirth “the second game in the trilogy” in a February 29, 2024 developer interview. Revelation’s position and listed release date come from the current official store listing; availability may depend on territory and storefront.
Where does INTERmission fit, and is it included with Intergrade?
INTERmission is an additional Yuffie-led episode associated with FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE INTERGRADE. Its events fit after Remake’s main story and before Rebirth, providing character context without being a separate main trilogy game. Square Enix describes Intergrade as an enhanced PS5 edition featuring the episode in its Intergrade announcement.
The edition distinction matters if you already own the PS4 game: Square Enix says the PS5 enhancement update for existing Remake owners does not include INTERmission. The episode can be purchased separately. Square Enix lists a physical PS5 Standard Edition and digital editions on PS5 and PC storefronts, though what is available varies by territory and current store listings. See its Intergrade editions FAQ.

What save data transfers between the games?
“Save transfer” can mean either moving a playable save between versions of the same game or checking an earlier game’s save to award a bonus. Square Enix documents both kinds of behavior in this series, but the later-game bonus checks are not described as importing your previous campaign’s levels, equipment, or general progress.
| From → to | What carries over | Key condition |
|---|---|---|
| Remake PS4 → Remake PS5 | Remake save data, allowing you to continue that game on PS5. | Square Enix says the transfer can be done once. If you continue playing the PS4 version afterward, that later progress does not automatically appear on PS5; the support article says you can repeat the transfer by deleting the PS5 version’s save and transferring again. |
| Remake → Rebirth | Eligibility for Leviathan summon materia. | The qualifying save data must be on the PS5 system. Rebirth checks after you select New Game or through the Bonuses menu. |
| INTERmission → Rebirth | Eligibility for Ramuh summon materia. | The qualifying save data must be on the PS5 system. Rebirth checks after you select New Game or through the Bonuses menu. |
| Intergrade and Rebirth → Revelation | The official store describes bonuses for same-platform prior saves, not campaign progression. | Save location and account conditions apply; some listed bonuses unlock on completing Revelation’s main game even without save data. |
Moving a Remake save from PS4 to PS5
Square Enix confirms that you can carry a PS4 Remake save to the PS5 version. This is a version-upgrade transfer, not a bridge from Remake into Rebirth. If you keep playing the PS4 version after transferring, its newer progress will not automatically sync to the PS5 save. Square Enix’s PS4-to-PS5 transfer FAQ explains the stated workaround: delete the PS5 version’s save and repeat the transfer.

Checking Remake or INTERmission data in Rebirth
Rebirth awards a defined summon-materia bonus for eligible earlier save data: Leviathan for Remake and Ramuh for INTERmission. Square Enix’s bonus instructions say the relevant data must be saved on the PS5 system and that the check is available after selecting New Game or through the Bonuses menu. These checks are not described as importing your old party build or campaign progress. Rebirth is also presented as a standalone adventure for newcomers on its official product page, so the bonuses are not a prerequisite to start the game.
Checking earlier saves in Revelation
The official Revelation store page says same-platform Intergrade and Rebirth saves can grant bonuses and sets out local-device and account conditions. It also says some listed bonuses unlock after completing the main game even if you do not have the qualifying save data. These are bonus eligibility rules, not a statement that Revelation imports a completed Rebirth campaign.

Quick checklist before you start
- For story context, play Remake, then INTERmission, then Rebirth, then Revelation.
- If you own Remake on PS4 and want the Yuffie episode, do not assume the PS5 enhancement update includes it; check the Intergrade edition details or the separate episode listing for your territory.
- If you want Rebirth’s Leviathan or Ramuh bonus, make sure the corresponding Remake or INTERmission save is on your PS5 system.
- For a save question, identify the source and destination versions, whether you mean a playable save or a bonus, and any platform, account, or save-location requirement.
