Its exact place in the series timeline is not officially settled. Bandai Namco has not said whether the story comes before or after Little Nightmares or Little Nightmares II, and the game’s producer has deliberately left the question open for players to theorize about once the game was out.
Where the game is set
The publisher describes the Nowhere as the nightmare world of the series, and the Spiral as a new region within it. Little Nightmares III follows Low and Alone through that region. Both are new protagonists: Low carries a bow and Alone carries a wrench.

The game’s first chapter takes place in the Necropolis, a city raised from desert sand and powered by gusting winds. PlayStation’s official preview describes its ruins as a city of “eternal energy and certain death.” The Necropolis is a location in this game. Its name and look do not tell you where the story falls in the chronology.
What the producer said about the timeline
The most useful source on this question is the game’s producer, speaking for Bandai Namco in an official producer interview. Asked how the characters and the different games relate in the timeline, the producer answered:

The interview page does not name the speaker, so attribute the quote to the Little Nightmares III producer. The statement is the decisive point. The official position is that the order is open. Silence on a date or a sequel label is not the same thing as a confirmed placement, and no official source places the game in a fixed order.

How to read fan timeline theories
Fan chronologies are common for a series built on shared art, recurring motifs, and an interconnected world. They can be fun to follow, but they are interpretation. Before accepting a theory, check it against these points:
- Identify the evidence type: an explicit in-game statement, a visual motif, a shared design, or an inference drawn from them.
- Check whether Bandai Namco or the producer has confirmed the link. Matching art or a familiar location does not establish order.
- Note whether the theory depends on a character or event being the same as an earlier one, which the official material does not establish.
- Label the theory as speculation when you share it.
Launch facts and platforms
According to Bandai Namco’s launch announcement, Little Nightmares III launched on October 10, 2025. The publisher lists these platforms: PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2.

Bandai Namco has announced the novel Little Nightmares: The Lonely Ones and the comic Little Nightmares: Descent to Nowhere. They are reasonable places to continue exploring the series’ world, but they do not establish where Little Nightmares III falls in the timeline.
